Newcastle United Fixtures – 2024/25 Season
Newcastle United had a turbulent 2023/24 opening portion of the season while balancing continental and domestic football. However, manager Eddie Howe managed to turn his side’s fortunes around, losing only two of their last 10 games.
Come the final game of the season, Newcastle finished seventh and were within touching distance of another European berth before Manchester United’s FA Cup success upset that ambition.
This campaign will provide an opportunity to get back among Europe’s elite. The Magpies have fewer fixtures to contend with this season and their terrible injury luck from last term shouldn’t carry over.
There is a real opportunity to make a quick start to the campaign, with only three games against sides who finished in the top 10 in the opening three months.
If Newcastle get themselves into contention early on and make the most of their imperious home form, there is no reason they can’t recreate their impressive 2022/23 season and battle for a Champions League return.
Standout Newcastle Fixtures
Newcastle United kickstart the Premier League campaign against Southampton at St James’ Park. There will be an air of expectancy surrounding Howe’s men for the season opener at home – they picked up 40 of their 60 points last year in front of their own fans. The Magpies will also finish their season on Tyneside against Everton.
Newcastle will have home advantage in their Boxing Day fixture as they welcome Aston Villa, with fans hoping for a repeat of the 5-1 opening day performance in 2023. Other pivotal home matches include Manchester City (28th September), Liverpool (4th December) and Manchester United (12th April).
Home comforts aside, Newcastle have some crucial away games that will certainly play a part in how there season unfolds. Two stern away tests fall back-to-back between October and November, with Howe’s side travelling to Stamford Bridge and the Emirates to take on Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.
They will have another tough away day in the capital to kickstart the new year at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Newcastle fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Ange Postecoglou’s team last season. However United striker Alexander Isak can expect a fruitful day in front of goal – he has scored four times in the last three meetings between the sides.
First Six Games
The Toon have a polarising set of fixtures to begin the season, bookended by games against newly-promoted Southampton and Premier League champions Manchester City.
Newcastle have won their last two home season openers and this term’s curtain-raiser against the Saints at St James’ Park looks winnable on paper. Indeed, the Magpies have won six of the last seven outings against the south-coast side with a 2-2 draw in August 2021 being the sole blemish on that run.
Bournemouth and Tottenham are next on the docket for Howe’s side. Supporters of the Magpies may have earmarked the latter fixture due to their impressive performances at home to Tottenham in recent years – they have won the last two fixtures at St James’ Park against Spurs by an aggregate of 10-1.
Tricky, but winnable, games away to Wolves and Fulham follow before rounding out the first six games of the campaign at home to City. While Pep Guardiola’s outfit prove a tough test for everybody, Newcastle can take solace in the fact that they won the last time these sides met in the month of September (a 1-0 victory in last season’s League Cup).
