Wrestlemania 40 Odds and Tips

The Super Bowl of sports entertainment is almost upon us with WWE Wrestlemania taking place on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7 from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

We already have a number of blockbuster bouts announced for the two-day spectacular with former WWE champion and Hollywood superstar The Rock set to make his grand return to the ring in a tag team match. He will align with current WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins on Saturday. Then, just 24 hours later, Reigns will defend his championship against Rhodes in the main event of Sunday.

Who will have their arm raised when the showcase of the immortals reaches its conclusion? Let’s take a look at the latest odds and tips for Wrestlemania 40.

Tip 1 - Roman Reigns to beat Cody Rhodes

For those that are out of the loop, Reigns has held the WWE Universal Championship for more than three and a half years, but the current expectation is that he is finally set to lose his title to Rhodes. This is actually a rematch of last year’s Wrestlemania main event, where again, Rhodes, was expected to win the title from Reigns and entered the match as the betting favourite. However, things didn’t pan out that way as Reigns’ cousin Solo Sikoa interfered at the end of the match to cost Rhodes the title.

It has been speculated that part of the reason Reigns retained the title that night was so he could reach 1,000 days as champion (he was over 900 at the time of Wrestlemania 39), but he has another milestone in his sights. Reigns has now held the title for over 1,300 days at the time of writing and is fast approaching Hulk Hogan’s 1,474-day reign which is the third-longest in the title’s history. If Reigns can be booked to win the Wrestlemania main event once in order to reach a milestone, why not again?

There have been other occasions when Reigns was the outsider and wound up keeping the belt. At Clash at the Castle in Cardiff in 2022, Scotsman Drew McIntyre was the heavy favourite to win the title, but again he came up short.

Ultimately, Rhodes is expected to finally claim the crown from Reigns at some point, but given what we’ve seen in the past, there is surely value in siding with Reigns if he is indeed the outsider at the expected prices.

Tip 2 - Rhea Ripley to beat Becky Lynch

There is arguably no better female wrestler on the planet right now – or perhaps in history – than Rhea Ripley. The Australian won the Women’s World Championship at last year’s Wrestlemania in a phenomenal match against Charlotte Flair and has since been on a phenomenal run. She main-evented the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in Australia last month in a victory against Nia Jax, and the feeling is that WWE bookies want to continue building her as a dominant champion. She will be locking horns with the Irish “lass-kicker” Becky Lynch, who also has a claim to being one of the best in the business.

However, Lynch’s heyday was a couple of years ago now and she has recently talked about wanting to be used as a tool for establishing the next generation. While Ripley is already established, she is still just 27 years old and a victory over Lynch would do wonders for her long-term standing. Ripley is expected to be favourite but even then there should be some value in backing her to retain her title.

Tip 3 - Drew McIntyre to beat Seth Rollins

This is another world title bout with McIntyre having won an elimination chamber match last month to secure his shot at Rollins and his title. McIntyre has been booked strongly for a number of years now and held the world title during Covid, when WWE events were effectively broadcast behind closed doors.

Despite winning the title, McIntyre never got his big win in front of a huge crowd and it seems likely that WWE is set to give him that four years later.

The Scotsman will likely interfere in the Rock/Reigns vs Rhodes/Rollins tag match the night before to add some extra sizzle to his feud with Rollins, and the fatigue on the reigning World Heavyweight Champion provides a perfect excuse for Rollins to lose the title to McIntyre while keeping The Architect looking strong.
