Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois: Insight, Prediction and Tips
Anthony Joshua has the chance to become a three-time world heavyweight champion at Wembley on Saturday when he faces IBF titleholder and fellow Briton Daniel Dubois.
Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) is contesting his first world title fight since losing to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time in August 2022 while Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) will step into the ring as the IBF champion for the first time.
Dubois became IBF interim champion with an impressive stoppage win over Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic in June and was elevated to full champion after Usyk vacated the belt later that month, although the Ukrainian still holds all the other heavyweight titles.
The winner of Saturday's all-British bout may get an undisputed world title fight with either Usyk or Tyson Fury, who will meet for a second time at the end of the year, but for now Joshua and Dubois will be focused on the task at hand.
Tip 1 - Over 7.5 rounds at 9/10
It seems unlikely that the judges will be required in Saturday's blockbuster heavyweight showdown looking at the careers of Joshua and Dubois.
Joshua is 28-3 with 25 of his wins and one defeat coming inside the distance. Dubois, meanwhile, boasts a 21-2 record of which 20 of his victories and both of his defeats have come before the final bell.
So in the combined 54 fights the pair have contested only six have required the judges to pass judgement – but any stoppage seems more likely to come later on in the Wembley main event.
Saturday's showdown is make or break for both British fighters. Should Joshua lose, the reputation he has rebuilt over the last two years will take a huge hit and he will face the daunting prospect of another gruelling rebuild.
And for Dubois, defeat in his first title defence would see him drop right back down the heavyweight pecking order and it could be a long road back to this level with Zhilei Zhang, Joseph Parker and Martin Bakole all waiting for their own title opportunities.
With that in mind, the first few rounds could be cagey as both men try to feel each other out and attempt to limit offering the other any clear chances.
Joshua was last seen stopping Francis Ngannou in the second round and, prior to that, he claimed a fifth-round win over Otto Wallin.
However, Dubois is a class above those fighters and in both of his professional losses he has reached the ninth round, while his last two knockout wins have come in the eighth round or later.
There may well be fireworks at Wembley but the main action could come as the fight wears on and backing over 7.5 rounds looks a decent starting point.
Tip 2 - Anthony Joshua to win in rounds 9-12 at 33/10
Joshua is the overwhelming odds-on favourite to claim the IBF belt but Saturday's title fight could be closer than the odds suggest.
Ultimately AJ is the likelier victor, though, and he could secure a grandstand finish by stopping Dubois in the final four rounds.
Saturday's contest will be Joshua's 13th world title fight, compared to Dubois’ second, and his greater experience of the big occasion should be telling.
He is a more polished fighter than his fellow Brit and has a touch more ringcraft and guile about his approach, too.
Dubois relies largely on his awesome power but if Joshua can get his tactics right he could wear down Dubois and score a late stoppage as the defending IBF champion either begins to tire or feels the need to take a few risks.
Tip 3 - Daniel Dubois over 0.5 knockdowns at 2/1
Underdog Dubois won't be without his backers but the best bet for anyone looking to support the 27-year-old is to take ‘Dynamite’ to score at least one knockdown at Wembley.
Dubois has stopped 20 of his 23 opponents and was harshly denied a knockdown in his defeat to Usyk, when his shot was adjudged to be a low blow by the referee.
If he can land on the former undisputed heavyweight king then he is definitely capable of knocking Joshua to the canvas.
