Claressa Shields vs Danielle Perkins Betting Tips
Claressa Shields has the chance to become a four-belt world heavyweight champion in front of a home Michigan crowd when the Flint fighter faces Danielle Perkins in the early hours of Sunday morning.
T-Rex is out to make history by becoming the first boxer ever to be crowned undisputed world champion in three different weight classes, and offers of 1/20 suggest that the 29-year-old will earn legendary status in Flint.
The vacant IBF and WBO heavyweight titles are on the line, along with Shields’ WBC and WBF straps and T-Rex is strongly fancied to cement her place as boxing’s pound-for-pound queen.
Tip – Claressa Shields to win in rounds 1-5 @ 23/4
Shields is a fearsome fighter and the Michigan boxer dispatched Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse with a second-round stoppage last time out.
The 29-year-old has previously won world titles in five weight classes and T-Rex is a former undisputed light-heavyweight champion and two-time undisputed middleweight ruler.
The Flint fighter was given the toughest test of her career against Savannah Marshall in 2022, but Shields passed the examination in pretty comfortable fashion and that is seriously strong form.
There are also excellent wins against Christina Hammer and Hanna Gabriels on T-Rex’s card, and although those victories didn’t come at heavyweight, there is plenty of substance and style to the 29-year-old’s record.
Perkins is having only her sixth professional contest since 2020 and that doesn’t look like the recipe to upset Shields.
There aren’t too many miles on the clock, given the New Yorker only started her pro career at the age of 37, but this does look a mighty tough assignment for the 42-year-old.
The southpaw will have a four-inch height advantage in Michigan and New Era is more natural at the weight, which could be useful tools in a contest with Shields.
The New York fighter appeared capable, without dazzling in victories over Timea Nagy and Christianne Fahey last year, but there were concerns when going the full six rounds against Fahey last time out.
Perkins’ defence was pretty loose, carrying her hands low in the southpaw stance, against the former Scottish rugby player and Fahey managed to land some clean shots on the American.
Had Fahey been a little more proficient in her attacks, it could have led to some serious problems for New Era and we know that Shields has the speed and skills to punish any gaps in Perkins’ defence.
Size and weight are just about where the positives stop for Perkins, in terms of advantages for the New Yorker, and it could be an early end to the Brooklyn fighter’s challenge.
There is no real substance to New Era’s card, the 42-year-old lacks experience of both big-fight nights and tackling a top-level opponent, and Perkins is likely to be completely outclassed.
Shields doesn’t have dazzling one-punch power, certainly not in the heavyweight division, but class, skill and speed are dangerous weapons and T-Rex is fairly certain to overwhelm her 42-year-old opponent.
It’s likely to be one-way traffic from the opening bell in Flint and Shields looks a good bet to win in the first five rounds.
