Europa League Matchday 2 Tips: Porto to Beat Manchester United?
The second round of eight UEFA Europa League matchdays takes place on Thursday with a mouthwatering set of fixtures from around Europe.
Big-hitters like Ajax, Lazio and Tottenham will be looking to build on winning starts, while clubs who missed out on Matchday 1, such as Porto and Besiktas, will be keen to get points on the board.
Porto to beat Manchester United @ 13/8
Porto were opening-night losers, crashing 3-2 on Bodo/Glimt's artificial pitch, a result that shows what a threat the Norwegians will be, especially at home.
The Portuguese, who have been in sparkling form, were accused by many of complacency, though expect them to have their eyes firmly on the prize of beating Manchester United at the Dragao.
They warmed up for the visit of United with a 4-0 drubbing of Arouca, a fourth straight home win this term.
And United are in disarray, horribly inconsistent and with confidence shot after crashing 3-0 at home against Tottenham on Sunday.
Over 3.5 goals in Besiktas v Eintracht Frankfurt @ 7/4
This is a tricky challenge for Eintracht Frankfurt, who are going well in second place in the Bundesliga, but could have done with an extra 24 hours' rest ahead of Sunday's colossal showdown with Bayern Munich.
That ought to be their focus except they have ground to make up in the UEFA Europa League after conceding two late goals in a 3-3 draw against Viktoria Plzen last time.
Opponents Besiktas are in an even stickier situation following their 4-0 clubbing at Ajax, but back in Istanbul they are tough to beat.
Besiktas' four home games this season have produced 17 goals, Eintracht's four away 16, so the scene is set for a high-scoring thriller.
Draw/Away Double Chance - Union Saint-Gilloise v Bodo/Glimt @ 5/6
Bodo/Glimt's plastic pitch is going to be an asset, but be sure the Norwegians can pick up points on the road as well.
UEFA Conference League quarter-finalists just three seasons ago, the Norwegians were excellent in beating Porto 3-2 in their opener.
They head to Belgium this week to shackle Union Saint-Gilloise, a side beaten 2-1 at Fenerbahce last week and on a run of just two wins in ten.
The Belgians have centre-back Kevin Mac Allister and in-form striker Mohamed Fuseini suspended and are having to play in Brussels rather than on their own patch and are well worth opposing.
Hoffenheim to beat Dynamo Kyiv @ 19/20
Hoffenheim's scoring power is being negated by a leaky defence in the Bundesliga but they can outpunch Dynamo Kyiv in what should be a knockout clash in Sinsheim.
Hoffenheim have scored and conceded in all seven games played this season and 14 of their last 15 dating back to March.
They left it late to snatch a 1-1 draw at Midtjylland on day one, a game in which they had more shots than the hosts but were wasteful.
Kyiv were thumped 3-0 by Lazio in their opening encounter and looked fairly unthreatening.
Tottenham Over 6.5 Shots on Target v Ferencvaros @ 9/5
Tottenham played for almost the whole of last week's 3-0 win over Qarabaq with 10 men, yet still managed to fire off five shots on target.
Ange Postecoglou will make plenty of changes for the trip to Ferencvaros, but his mindset won't change and expect them to be positive.
Ferencvaros need to bounce back from a 2-1 loss at Anderlecht in which they faced six shots on target.
The Hungarians have to be positive at home which will open up chances on the break and Spurs can fill their boots.
