FIFA Club World Cup Final Tips: Chelsea vs Paris Saint-Germain

After winning the Champions League for the first time in May, Paris Saint-Germain stand on the verge of being crowned world champions.

The Club World Cup wraps up on Sunday at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, with the European champions facing Conference League winners Chelsea.

The Blues have enjoyed a kind run to the final, banking a fortune along the way, but Sunday’s clash will likely prove too much for Enzo Maresca’s young side.

Team news

Chelsea continue to be without defender Wesley Fofana, while the Blues have doubts over Romeo Lavia and Beniot Badiashile. Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo will likely continue at centre-back.

Moises Caicedo pulled up with an injury against Fluminense, but the midfielder is expected to start alongside Enzo Fernandez in New Jersey.

PSG head into this contest without suspended pair Lucas Hernandez and Willian Pacho. The two missed the clash with Real Madrid after getting sent off against Bayern. Expect Beraldo and Marquinhos to start at the heart of defence.

Ousmane Dembele has been rotated in and out of the PSG team throughout the tournament. However, Luis Enrique isn’t expected to take any risks for the final, with the French outfit likely to name their strongest available side.

Tip 1 – PSG to win and both teams to score @ 15/8

PSG have only conceded to Botafogo at the Club World Cup so far, but the French side finished the domestic campaign having conceded in six of their final seven matches.

They also have defensive issues to deal with, given they’re without Hernandez and Pacho at the back. That could expose them to a Chelsea side who are well-stocked going forward, with Joao Pedro scoring twice in the semi-final.

PSG are expected to win this clash, having scored 16 times across their five wins at the Club World Cup. However, the French side were fortunate to meet a Madrid team that weren’t exactly at their best going forward in the semis.

While Maresca’s Chelsea have defensive concerns, they’re a good side going forward. They could be backed to score in a defeat.

Tip 2 – Marc Cucurella 1+ shots on target and Moises Caicedo to be carded @ 16/1

There’s plenty of appeal in this 16/1 double, especially given the role Caicedo plays for the Blues.

He’s often the only midfielder who hangs back when they go forward, leaving the Ecuadorian primed to commit fouls to prevent counter-attacks.

He’s been booked twice at this tournament already, so you could back him for a caution in Chelsea’s biggest test so far.

When the Blues do go forward, Marc Cucurella is likely to play a key role. The Spaniard frequently joins their forward line from left-back, often covering that entire flank on his own.

The defender isn’t afraid to have a shot, having recorded a shot on target in all three knockout matches so far.

While Chelsea’s defence will be up against it, PSG’s adventurous full-backs can leave gaps for opponents to exploit.

Cucurella isn’t shy breaking forward at any opportunity, so he is a real standout in the shots markets.

As he bids for a fourth consecutive game with a shot on target, pair that with a Caicedo card for a huge 16/1 double.
