LAURA WOODS: WHY CARRICK IS IN POLE POSITION FOR MAN UTD JOB
ARSENAL? I’M WORRIED
As an Arsenal fan, I am concerned. There’s no getting away from it.
This team doesn't seem to be doing well with, dare I say it, the pressure.
Sunday’s defeat against Manchester United was incredibly disappointing and the fact they went 1-0 up and didn’t put their foot on the pedal was concerning.
That’s the time to go for it and show the rest of the Premier League what you’re about – but they didn’t.

HUGE CREDIT TO MAN UTD
I have to admit United were very impressive and they do deserve credit for how they’ve turned things around so quickly.
I suppose you’ve got to ask what the two results under Michael Carrick say about Ruben Amorim? Clearly, it shows a change was needed but you’ve got to think how frustrated Amorim is going to be seeing the performances the players have put in since he left.
Kobbie Mainoo being reintroduced into the team has had a massive impact and sometimes one player can be the key to turning things around.
He obviously didn’t get on with Amorim but Carrick has reintroduced him into the side and the team has improved significantly.
I think a lot of credit should go to Harry Maguire, too, because he’s been brilliant.
Amorim had a lot of injuries and that obviously didn’t help. Bruno Fernandes being out for a bit of time held them back too but, whatever way you look at it, they seem a totally different proposition now.
Beating Manchester City and Arsenal back-to-back is an incredible feat and a lot of credit has to go to Carrick because he’s really instilled belief and motivation in his players.
They are a really dangerous proposition for anyone at the moment

CARRICK TRACKING FOR PERMANENT ROLE
I didn’t really think Carrick would ever be considered for the permanent Manchester United role and I was a bit surprised by what Teddy Sheringham said when I interviewed him last week.
The job is so big and there’s such scrutiny on it that you’d have to be a little bit worried about a manager as inexperienced as Carrick taking it.
It does make me a little nervous about what happened to Ole Gunnar Solskjær because everyone said the same thing.
Who should get the permanent Manchester United job? 🔴

It might only have been one game but Teddy Sheringham already likes the look of Michael Carrick!

However, Ole’s reign at United was one of the best since Sir Alex Ferguson so I wonder if we need to stop judging that job by whether it’s a big enough name or not and actually the results they’ve pulled in on the pitch.
If Carrick manages to do a good job with this team, there is no reason why he shouldn’t get the job.
I do feel a touch sad for Amorim because he is the person who got them not too far off fourth despite everything that was going on. He obviously just wasn’t the right man for the job.
The fact United are fourth in the league table is pretty crazy and fair play to them for that. I don’t think anyone expected them to be where they are.

SLOT UNDER PRESSURE
Arne Slot is under big pressure at Liverpool.
The vibe seems to be that the fans are beginning to turn on him and, when a fanbase like Liverpool’s does that, you’ve got problems.
Fundamentally the results and performances haven’t been good enough. They just can’t get a run of good performances together at the moment and that’s really hurting them.
They were brilliant in the Champions League against Marseille and then they really struggled against Bournemouth in the Premier League, so it’s been a bit of two steps forward and one back.
He’s got plenty of credit in the bank from what he did last season by winning the Premier League title but that doesn’t last forever.
If things don’t improve I can see the pressure really rising on him.
