England vs Australia: Autumn Nations Series Tips
There’s a mouthwatering contest to kick-start the Autumn Nations Series at Allianz Stadium, as England prepare to host Australia on Saturday.
The Wallabies caused an upset on their last visit to Twickenham and, having been battle-hardened by a British & Irish Lions series and Rugby Championship campaign, Australia will be hoping to inflict more woe on Steve Borthwick’s men this weekend.
It’s a first run out for a full-strength England side since the last Six Nations and it will be interesting to see how the Red Rose approach this game against the dangerous tourists.
Tip 1 – Australia +5.5 handicap @ 5/4
It was just under 12 months ago that Australia stunned the home crowd at Allianz Stadium to win a 42-37 thriller at Rugby HQ.
At that time, the Wallabies were struggling under head coach Joe Schmidt with what seemed to be an identity crisis following a number of disappointing results.
That game at Twickenham was almost a turning point for the Aussies and showed they could compete with top teams again, especially away from home.
Beating the Lions in the final game of the summer series, which could have gone either way, was another step forward, while Australia also picked up wins in the Rugby Championship against South Africa and Argentina.
After a start to the Gallagher Prem that has seen high-scoring attacking rugby, it will be interesting to see if England’s stars are allowed to play that brand of rugby for their country.
Criticism has been levelled at England in the past for putting the reins on some of their creative players to fit into a structure.
Saturday will reveal plenty about what to expect from the Red Rose heading into the 2026 Six Nations but the hosts do seem a short price at 1/4 for the win.
With that in mind, and considering this battle-hardened Australia side will be a serious threat, the Wallabies with a +5.5 handicap appeals at odds of 5/4.
Tip 2 – Over 55.5 total points @ 11/10
With dry and sunny weather expected in London on Saturday, the conditions should be there for running rugby at Allianz Stadium.
Looking back on the last 10 games between rivals England and Australia, it’s never been a penalty fest decided by the kickers on the day.
In those last 10 meetings between two former world champions, the average points scored per match comes in at 53.5.
Considering the attacking talent on show, and with the thankfully dry conditions expected in the capital over the course of Saturday’s game, another high-scoring encounter might well be on the cards.
With that in mind, and considering 79 points were scored the last time these sides crossed paths at Twickenham, going for the over 55.5 total points gets the green light at odds of 11/10.
