The Different Types of Roulette at BetMGM UK
From the classic single-zero wheel to tables with two balls in play and lightning striking the layout, consider this your guide to the different types of roulette you can enjoy at BetMGM Casino.
Traditional Variations
One wheel, one ball and that moment of anticipation as the wheel starts to slow. Online roulette is one of the easier online table games to pick up, but there's far more variety than most players realise.
However many bells and whistles these different types of roulette games have, you’ll often find it rooted by three different variations: European, American and French.
While they may look identical at first glance, it’s these details that make the world of difference in playing to your preferences, giving you something new to experience every time you take a seat.
European Roulette
European roulette spins on a 37-pocket wheel, numbered 1 to 36 plus a single green zero, and it's the version most players learn on, alongside our live European and French roulette tables.
You can play it however you like, too. Back a single number with a straight-up bet at 35:1, spread your chips across splits, streets and corners, or keep it simple with red or black, odd or even and high or low.
Just keep an eye on the zero, because when it lands, outside bets lose.
American Roulette
American roulette gives the wheel an extra pocket and a few extra talking points. Alongside the single zero sits a double zero (00), which takes the wheel to 38 pockets in total.
What’s more, the five-number bet covers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 in one go and pays 6:1, which you won’t find on a single-zero table, giving the game an entirely different dimension to consider.

French Roulette
French roulette uses the same single-zero wheel as European roulette, with a little more finesse.
Its signature rule is something called ‘La Partage’, where if the ball lands on zero, you get half your even-money stake back instead of losing it all. That said, some tables use ‘En Prison’ instead, which holds your bet for the next spin.
The table has its own flair too. Bets are labelled in French (Rouge and Noir, Pair and Impair, Manque and Passe), and the racetrack lets you place call bets like Voisins du Zero, Tiers du Cylindre and Orphelins, which cover whole sections of the wheel.
Other Types of Roulette
Looking for a different type of roulette game entirely that’s perhaps a little more modernised? Beyond our traditional tables, you'll find roulette games that move faster, play with two balls or add multipliers into the mix.
Rapid Roulette
Same wheel, same bets, just faster.
Rapid roulette, often called speed roulette, keeps everything you know about the classic game and cuts out the waiting around.
Betting windows are shorter and the winning number is picked up automatically, so as soon as one round ends, the next one is already on its way.
Double Ball Roulette
Why settle for one ball when you can have two? That’s the idea behind Double Ball Roulette, where every round has the chance to land not one, but two winning numbers.
Inside bets win if either ball lands on your number, and pay twice as much if both do. Outside bets need both balls to land on your chosen outcome, and pay enhanced odds in return.
For the ultimate long shot, there are dedicated Double Ball bets on both balls landing on the same number.
Roulette Games with Bonus Features
This is where roulette really lets loose. Our live casino range is packed with games that keep the classic wheel but add multipliers, bonus rounds and everything in between.
In Lightning Roulette, lightning strikes up to five Lucky Numbers every round, giving each one a random multiplier. If your straight-up bet lands on a Lucky Number, that multiplier boosts your payout.
Things heat up in Mega Fire Blaze Roulette, too. Every regular round has five fire numbers, and if the ball finds one, the Fire Blast bonus round begins. In that round ten fire numbers are picked, and you can climb through four Jackpot levels (Mini, Minor, Major and Grand), each with bigger multipliers.
Outside bets pay as normal, while inside bets without multipliers pay a little less to keep the fire burning.
However you like to play, there's always a roulette table for you at BetMGM Casino.
