Newcastle are fighting at the top end of the Premier League once again and a hugely successful 2022/23 campaign saw the Toon secure a return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
Together, BetMGM and Newcastle United will showcase entertainment on the grandest stage as the Magpies look to build on last year’s success while taking on some of the best teams in all of Europe.
History of Newcastle United
A club with a famous history, Newcastle United has overcome recent tough times to re-established itself once again as a force to be reckoned with computing at the top of the Premier League and in European competition.
In 1892, Newcastle East End absorbed the assets of Newcastle West End. Thus, Newcastle United was born. Since the formation, United have played their home games in no other stadium than the famous St James’ Park.
Located in the heart of the city centre, the stadium has played host to some of Newcastle’s greatest players over the years – the likes of Jackie Milburn, Paul Gascoigne, Kevin Keegan and, of course, Premier League all-time leading goalscorer Alan Shearer, whose statue can be found outside of the stadium.
As well as some of the best players the game has seen, Newcastle have been involved in some of the most pulsating football matches around too. Dubbed “The Entertainers”, Kevin Keegan’s side of the 1990s played exhilarating football and went toe-to-toe in all-time classics with Manchester United, Liverpool and European giants Barcelona.
A strong campaign in 2022/23 saw the Magpies compete for trophies on multiple fronts and after securing European football qualification, Newcastle United have made a return to the prestigious Champions League. With the investment in the club, Newcastle and their loyal fanbase can look forward to more famous European nights as they challenge the continent’s finest once again.
