How to Bet on the Club World Cup

Our Club World Cup betting guide starts – you guessed it – with learning about how to place a football bet. To begin, ensure you join BetMGM and create a user profile. Trigger a sports welcome bonus, download the BetMGM app, and make a deposit to get started!

From here, head to the football section on BetMGM UK, where you’ll find all the latest football odds.

Click on the ‘Club World Cup’ button or search for the tournament in the search bar, then click on the market you want to bet on. This could be an outright market (such as tournament winner or top goalscorer) to match markets that focus on odds for each Club World Cup game.

Browse the odds until you find an outcome and price you like the look of, then click to add it to your betslip. Enter your stake in the slip to see your potential profit and, once you’re happy with the bet, hit ‘Place Bet’ to complete the process.

Betting online and via the BetMGM app is much quicker and easier than in person. It also means you unlock better odds and have access to promotions, Bet Builders, and Premium Picks!

Club World Cup 2025 Betting Markets Explained

All football odds at BetMGM are split into ‘Outright’ and ‘Match’ odds to make things smoother for punters. Outright odds are those that focus on tournament and league results, such as betting on the team to win the title, or a player to secure the most assists in a competition.

Match odds focus on game-specific outcomes, like match winner, first goalscorer, etc. You can access both easily on the BetMGM football odds page and the BetMGM app.

Here are the core markets available for Club World Cup betting:

Club World Cup Match Bets

  • Match Result – Bet on the result of your chosen match. Your options are: home win (1), draw (X), away win (2). While teams don’t play ‘at home’ in the Club World Cup, the team first on the match listing is considered the ‘home’ team for this bet.
  • Both Teams to Score – BTTS betting is a great way to back goals in a match. Here, you’re betting on both teams to score at any point.
  • Over/Under Goals – Bet on the match featuring more or fewer than a set number of goals, or on a team to do so. For example, bet on Palmeiras vs Porto to feature +2.5 goals.
  • Correct Score – Bet on the score at the end of the game, or at half time. The odds are higher than a match result bet.
  • First Goalscorer / Anytime Scorer – Bet on who will score, when. Back first and last goalscorers in matches and back players to score at any time.
  • Accumulators – Bring multiple bets together into one big wager with a football accumulator. You significantly increase your odds and all picks have to win in order to win the bet.
  • Live odds – Bet live on the Club World Cup with in-play odds on scores of markets, including match result, next goalscorer and correct score. Enjoy live betting at BetMGM and stay on top of all the action!

Club World Cup Outright Bets

  • Tournament Winner – Bet on who will win the Club World Cup. The odds fluctuate throughout the competition but the European big boys usually top the bill.
  • Reach the final – You can bet on a team to finish in the Top 2 of the Club World Cup, which is effectively backing them to reach the final.
  • Group finishing position – Bet on teams to either top their group or finish second. This is a great bet for backing an underdog to sneak into the last-16, or for predicting the final position of a Group of Death.

Understanding Club World Cup Odds

The football odds at the Club World Cup are in continuous flux in both the outrights and match markets. The odds reflect the likelihood of something happening. The bigger the odds, the more profit you get relative to your stake – but the outcome is also less likely to occur.

Say Inter are fifth on the list of favourites to win the Club World Cup at 10.00. If you bet £1, you get £10 back if they lift the trophy. They could lose their first game and see their odds expand to 15.00, which offers more profit but is arguably less likely to occur.

BetMGM offers three types of betting odds for the Club World Cup:

  • Fractional Odds – These show how much profit you stand to win relative to your stake. Let’s say Seattle are 4/1 to beat Botofogo. Your profit is on the left, your stake on the right of the slash. So, if you bet £1 on Seattle to win, you get £4 profit (plus your £1 stake) back.
  • Decimal Odds – These show your total return off a £1 bet. Here, Seattle would be 5.00 to beat Botofogo, which represents a £5 total return (stake + profit) from a £1 winning bet. If fractional odds drop below 2.00 then your profit is less than your stake. So, winning at odds of 1.83 returns 83p profit + £1 stake = £1.83 in total.
  • American Odds – Positive American odds show how much you stand to win based on a £100 bet. If the odds are +400 then you win £400 for each £100 staked (plus your bet back). Conversely, negative American odds show how much you need to bet in order to win £100 profit. So, -500 means you have to bet £500 just to get £100 profit. Of course, you don’t have to bet hundreds of pounds with American odds!

Odds fluctuate based on a range of factors. BetMGM originally sets odds based on team status, form, squad strength, and past success. But, as the tournament rolls out, injuries, squad changes, form stats, and other factors influence the odds.

The Club World Cup’s new format adds an extra layer of uncertainty, which is great for punters seeking value in underdog bets.

When is the Club World Cup 2025 and How Long Does It Run?

The 2025 Club World Cup kicks off on 14 June in Miami and runs until the final on 13 July in New York. The month-long tournament follows a 32-team structure, with eight groups of four clubs. Each team plays their group opponents once, with the top two progressing to the last-16 after three match rounds.

From here, it’s a straight knockout to the final. Most days of the group stage will feature four games, while the knockouts begin on 28 June.

Previous Winners of the Club World Cup

The original Club World Cup took place way back in 2000. It was a controversial tournament that came in the middle of the European domestic season, meaning then-Champions League holders Manchester United withdrew from the FA Cup to compete.

It was revamped in 2005 and played in December each year, with the champions from the world’s six confederations competing.

Only in the 2020s was it decided to scrap the annual tournament and instead make the Club World Cup a four-yearly summer competition, much like the World Cup and European Championships.

Betting Tips for Club World Cup 2025

You can access great football betting tips during the Club World Cup by following the BetMGM blog! This guide to Club World Cup betting is here to show you some general best practices when following the tournament.

  • Do Your Research – This is perhaps the most important betting tip anyone will ever give you. It’s important to research teams involved in the Club World Cup. You might be familiar with the European big boys but how many of us really know Asian and African club football inside out? Take some time before betting to research teams and players, which will help you make smarter choices.
  • Tiredness Is Real – Some European clubs are coming into the Club World Cup after long domestic seasons, and may have progressed deep into the Champions League. The summer is meant to be a break but not this year! Keep an eye out for tiredness and be aware that managers may rotate their squads, which could weaken them in a match against a plucky underdog.
  • Watch For The South Americans – Brazilian and Argentine fans love the Club World Cup because it’s their chance to get one over European teams. Don’t be surprised if South American clubs fare well here and even reach the semi-finals.
  • Read Match Previews – Be sure to read previews and check injury news on teams you plan to bet on. There’s nothing more frustrating than betting on a player to score, only to learn three days later that they’ve withdrawn from the squad through injury.

Dos and Don’ts of Betting on the Club World Cup

Dos:

  • Compare team squads and form across leagues and assess which squads are primed for the competition. Keep an eye on when teams’ domestic seasons ended, as some might be fresher than others.
  • Check which players competed in the May/June international window and how they performed. After a long season, they might be exhausted coming into the Club World Cup.
  • Check tournament format and seeding to ensure you know what’s at stake. If you’re betting on a final group game where the two teams just need a draw to both qualify then you need to be aware of that!
  • Look for in-play betting opportunities and watch the Club World Cup live when you can. BetMGM offers extensive odds and stats during games, but there’s nothing quite like watching the match unfold to maximise your knowledge.
  • Keep your stakes low if you’re just starting out and place single, uncomplicated bets.
  • Use betting promotions where possible and get a boost when placing bets. BetMGM offers a great welcome bonus, plus existing customer deals, boosted odds, and loads more!

Don’ts:

  • Don’t bet blindly on teams you don’t know. That’s the fastest route to failure. Research is king in the world of football betting.
  • Avoid chasing losses with high-stake bets. Sometimes it’s best to know when to quit. You can even cash out on a live bet that’s losing in order to cut your losses. Doubling down to chase losses is not responsible gambling.
  • Don’t ignore team news and squad rotation, as this could kill your bet before the game has even kicked off.
  • Don’t just follow the crowd. Look to make your own decisions and use BetMGM’s tips as guidance when betting on the Club World Cup.
