2025 GRAND SLAM OF DARTS TIPS: PRICE IS RIGHT FOR GERWYN?
32 players head to Wolverhampton for the 2025 Grand Slam of Darts. Finalists from televised tournaments, PDC Pro Tour title winners, and additional qualifiers are joined by eight Tour Card holder qualifiers for the tournament, which begins in a round-robin format.
Luke Littler is the defending champion and the number one seed in a packed field that features current and former world champions, including Luke Humphries, Michael Smith, Gary Anderson and Gerwyn Price.
The tournament is in leg-play format, with the number of legs to win increasing as the competition progresses. The group stage matches are best of nine legs, with the second round best of 16 and the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are a mammoth battle of best of 31 legs.
Here, BetMGM has you covered with three tips for the tournament as darts heads to the Midlands.
Tip 1 – Gerwyn Price to win the Grand Slam of Darts @ 8/1
Three-time Grand Slam winner Gerwyn Price faces a tricky Group D this year, but we’re backing him to go all the way again.
The Welshman faces both James Wade and Ricky Evans in the group but will avoid both world champion Luke Littler and world number one Luke Humphries in the second round should he progress - he’s only failed to make it out of the group once.
He hasn’t won a major since the World Cup in 2023, but a few decent showings in 2025 indicate Price is shaping up nicely for another shot at glory. Making the final of the World Cup this year and semi-final spots in the BetMGM Premier League and the World Series of Darts Finals are as good as the majors have got, but a World Series title and a European Tour win have shown what he really can do.
A first-round exit at the European Championship was disappointing but his 8/1 title odds are appealing. His 97.73 average in 2025 is the joint fifth-best on tour, and his record here shows he clearly likes the format.
Should he navigate the group, you could easily fancy the Ice Man to go all the way. Generous odds and decent form make for a strong selection.
Tip 2 – Jonny Clayton to win Group H @ 11/10
World Masters finalist Jonny Clayton is also out to win a first major since 2023 and can get the best possible start by winning Group H.
He’s up against Danny Noppert, Cam Crabtree and Lukas Wenig in the group stage and will fancy his chances of coming out on top. The Ferret has enjoyed 2025 and has made two finals, the World Cup and the World Masters, as well as last four spots in three other majors.
Wins on the European Tour and the Players Championship have been impressive while his average of 96.59 leaves him just outside the top 10 on tour.
Noppert will be his biggest threat to the group win, but the Welshman has won the last four meetings - including one whitewash.
At 11/10 to win the group, it looks a solid choice and he may well fancy his chances against likely second-round opponents Gary Anderson or Michael van Gerwen.
Tip 3 – Luke Littler to win the Grand Slam of Darts @ 2/1
Defending champion Littler is out for yet more glory in 2025.
His emphatic 16-3 win in the 2024 final over Martin Lukeman proved to anyone that needed it that he can do it in the longer format, just as well as the short, and it’s impossible to preview a tournament these days without talking up his chances.
A year-to-date average of 100.65, an astonishing 806 180s, over 100 clear of second-placed Beau Greaves, and four majors won already. It has been quite the year for The Nuke.
His odds are short, and he is the favourite once again, but 2/1 for someone with his record in majors is not to be sniffed at.
He would avoid world number one Luke Humphries until the final, and Group E should pose him little problem. He faces Daryl Gurney, who he has comfortably beaten in both of their meetings, as well as Connor Scutt and Karel Sedláček.
It could well be more glory in Wolverhampton for Littler, as he prepares to defend his World Championship title at Ally Pally next month.
