EFL: Championship, League One & League Two Weekend Tips
Stoke and Middlesbrough – two teams predicted to have challenging seasons – are leading the way in the Championship with 100% win records after some more impressive performances last weekend.
The former were the most eye-catching, sealing a 2-1 win at Southampton despite being down to 10 men for more than 30 minutes. It’s the first time since 1998-99 that they have won their opening three league games, when they were operating in the third tier.
At the bottom, play-off finalists Sheffield United and new manager Ruben Selles continue to endure a torrid campaign with three defeats from three.
In League One, Cardiff are top having just dropped two points all season while, in League Two, Crewe remain top despite a defeat to Gillingham.
We’ve done some scouring and landed on the following three tips ahead of the weekend. Check them out below.
Tip 1 – Middlesbrough and Charlton to win to-nil @ 21/2
Middlesbrough and Charlton have had varying starts to the campaign, lying in second and 14th respectively, but they share one common strength so far this season: their defence.
Both teams have conceded just one goal apiece in the three games they’ve played so far, the lowest number in the Championship.
They each come across struggling sides in Sheffield United and QPR. The former have managed just one goal this term while the latter come into this game off the back of a 7-1 humiliation against Coventry.
Both teams are in the bottom three; backing both Middlesbrough and Charlton to win to-nil looks an attractive price at 10/1.
Tip 2 – Jamie Reed to score anytime vs Wycombe @ 49/20
Stevenage’s scintillating start to the campaign came to a halt with a 1-0 defeat to the free-spending Huddersfield at the weekend.
Boro still look well-set to make a push for the upper echelons of the table this year, though, and that could be down to the form of stalwart Jamie Reed.
The Northern Ireland international leads the League One scoring charts with five goals in five games and has looked extremely sharp all season.
He is also the nominal penalty taker and he’s taking on a team that is struggling to get off the mark this season in Wycombe.
The Chairboys have managed just two points from their opening five, conceding eight in that run.
We like Reed to continue his goalscoring exploits at a decent price.
Tip 3 – Over 3.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score in Tranmere vs Notts County @ 23/10
In the Football League, only Blackpool (18) in League One have seen more goals in their games than Notts County’s 17, who have scored nine goals and conceded eight.
Meanwhile, Tranmere average 2.5 goals per game so far in this campaign.
In the past six meetings between these two there have been 18 goals; in the last four, both teams have scored.
This feels like it could be a goalmine. Combining over 3.5 goals and both teams to score comes in at a healthy 23/10.
