EFL: Championship, League One & League Two Weekend Tips
Who would have had Stoke City top of the EFL Championship after two games?
Under the stewardship of Mark Robins, the pre-season 33/1 title shots have scored six goals and conceded just once in their opening two games.
Fans are dreaming of bringing those cold Tuesday nights at the Britannia back to the Premier League big time already.
Elsewhere, Middlesbrough and West Brom also retain 100% Championship records while, in Leagues One and Two, Stevenage and Crewe Alexandra are the sole teams to have won all their games.
Below, we pick out some of the eye-catching prices ahead of another exciting weekend of EFL drama.
Tip 1 – Adrian Segecic to score anytime vs West Brom @ 17/4
There is plenty of excitement surrounding the prospects of Portsmouth’s exciting and powerful forward Adrian Segecic.
Signed from Sydney FC in the summer, Segecic has registered two goals in his first two games for Pompey – his first sealing an opening day 1-0 win over Oxford in what was a sparkling debut.
He is hardly shot-shy, having attempted eight in his first two games with a 38% accuracy rate. It’s little wonder why: the Australian has a powerhouse hit in his locker.
Although his team are the outsiders for this clash, we like the look of him going three from three against West Brom this weekend and his 17/4 anytime scorer odds represent good value.
Keep an eye on any top goalscorer odds in the Championship, too. He feels like a name to remember.
Tip 2 – Peterborough & Northampton to score under 1.5 goals vs Bradford & Exeter @ 21/20
Both sides have been eye-scratchingly poor in front of goal so far this term.
The Posh have scored once and averaged just two shots on target per game in their opening four matches.
Those bleak numbers do not bode well given Peterborough face a tricky opponent this weekend in Bradford, who have conceded just three goals in four.
Northampton, meanwhile, have also managed just one goal so far in the campaign and have had just four shots on target in their previous three games.
At 21/20 for the Peterborough/Northampton under 1.5 goals double, backing both sides to continue their profligacy rates a good bet as a standalone doubler or part of a wider accumulator. Both teams simply aren’t close to being clinical enough.
Tip 3 – Over 3.5 Goals in Fleetwood vs Oldham @ 49/20
League Two matches involving Fleetwood this season have seen a total of 14 goals for an average of 3.5 goals per game – the most of any side in the division.
Oldham, meanwhile, have yet to win a match, with two 0-0 draws, a 1-1 and a 2-1 defeat on their docket thus far.
We are leaning towards some more fiery Fleetwood excitement than Oldham obduracy on Saturday.
Fleetwood striker Will Davies leads the League Two scoring charts with three goals in four games, though he plays in front of the joint-second leakiest defence in the division.
The Cod Army have conceded seven goals, four of which came in Tuesday night’s 4-1 defeat to league leaders Crewe.
Oldham, meanwhile, have conceded 27 shots in their past two games.
With an average of four goals per game across the last four meetings between these two, the floodgates opening again this time stands out at 49/20 for over 3.5 goals.
