FIFA Club World Cup: Group E Tips

The Club World Cup kicks off this week and there are a number of intriguing groups for punters to get their teeth into.

Group E is one of those, as Champions League runners-up Inter Milan face a selection of teams from around the world.

River Plate look like the biggest danger to the Italian giants, but Mexican outfit Monterrey and Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan will also hope to show their worth.

Below we have 9/4, 23/10, and 23/20 tips for this group, which starts on Tuesday as River Plate take on Urawa Red Diamonds.

Tip 1 – River Plate to win Group E @ 9/4

Inter Milan suffered heartache in the Champions League final as they were hammered 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain. That disappointment may take some time to recover from and manager Simone Inzaghi has already departed, replaced by Cristian Chivu.

Chivu’s managerial career has hardly been a resounding success. He had a 23% win percentage at Parma during the 2024-25 season and that represents his only experience in a senior coaching role.

If the scars from the Champions League linger, it could be hard for this ageing side to recover, and River Plate could take full advantage.

The South Americans lost just one league game in the first phase of the Argentinian league season and in Franco Mastantuono they have one of the most sought after young players in world football.

The other two members of the group, Monterrey and Urawa Red Diamonds, look unlikely to get involved and it could be River Plate that spring a surprise by topping the section.

Tip 2 – Franco Mastatuono to score at any time in River Plate vs Urawa Red Diamonds @ 23/10

There will be a number of exciting young prospects on show at this year’s Club World Cup but one of the standouts will be Franco Mastatuono.

The 17-year-old made his Argentina debut against Chile recently, becoming the youngest player to represent the reigning world champions in a competitive fixture, and he looks set for a move to Europe in the very near future.

A midfielder by trade, Mastatuono has added a goalscoring element to his game this season, netting seven times in 20 matches in all competitions. He now takes free kicks and looks a tempting price to get on the scoresheet in this opener.

Tip 3 – Under 2.5 goals in Monterrey vs Inter Milan @ 23/20

Inter Milan may take some time to recover from their Champions League disappointment and get used to the tactics of new manager Cristian Chivu.

As a result, the Italians could have a disjointed feel and that may be reflected in the result of their opener against Monterrey.

The Mexican side have not pulled up any trees domestically recently and will be looking to escape from this game unscathed before facing easier assignments down the line.

That could lead to a cagey affair and under 2.5 goals is the selection in this one.
