LAURA WOODS: IS GLASNER REALLY THE ANSWER FOR MAN UTD?
WHAT’S GOING ON AT OLD TRAFFORD?
Michael Carrick has been getting a bit of stick because people may feel that the Manchester United job is a little big for him
Personally I think it was a bit silly to sack Ruben Amorim without an idea of the direction you want to go in – but maybe the relationship was just beyond repair.
Carrick was a great player and did well as Middlesbrough manager. I think he can be the one to unify United, which is what they need at the moment.
Oliver Glasner has already been linked with the job after confirming he will be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season.
I think what he has done at Palace has been amazing, especially coping with losing players and still bringing success like the FA Cup – the scalps they took along the way were really impressive.

If Glasner is the direction they want to go in then I am not going to put a negative spin on that.
I think we just associate United with big-name glamour managers like Jose Mourinho. I thought that would be perfect for him going there but whatever is going on behind the scenes doesn’t make it easy.
If it were my club, I would feel maybe like the season is on hold now and in a little bit of limbo.
They can aim for Champions League football and at present that would be a huge success for them with all of the turmoil they have had over the last few seasons.
If they do go for Glasner, I wish him the best of luck and he could do a great job there with the amount of talent they have.

UNITED STILL HUGE BUT LACK OLD SHINE
Can I be really honest? I don’t think United have the shine they used to, at all.
The younger generation have probably moved onto different clubs – success breeds huge fanbases.
Their legacy, though, does make them a big club and they can obviously attract huge names as they showed in the summer.
The fact that we are always talking about them, and they are always in the headlines, that in itself makes them a big club.
If you are talking about trophies, too, they have more trophies than Arsenal over the last few seasons; they are just finishing further down the table and not living up to that big club tag.
They are constantly starting over and over again but compared to the likes of Palace and United are still a huge club.
Why would Glasner potentially leave Palace for Manchester otherwise?
ROSENIOR AT CHELSEA A SURPRISE
This one was certainly out of the blue. I didn’t see this one coming at all and I don't think many people will have.
I have worked with Liam Rosenior before and he was such an intelligent guy – I’m fascinated to see how he does at Chelsea.
Nowadays, with the amount of focus on you online, you are almost labelled and you become something that the internet wants you to be.
But whatever people are saying about him, I don’t think Rosenior will care. His job is to do the best for Chelsea, not to impress people on social media.
I really want to see how he manages this Chelsea team and the expectations of the fans. I wish him well in that.

I have heard him speaking and I think there’s always room in football for something new. When Mourinho arrived with his coolness and charisma he blew everyone away and, before you knew it, he was winning games and trophies.
Liam is an intelligent guy. Don’t write him off as not big enough for this job because he could well surprise you.
He will have so much scrutiny on him – he is the manager of Chelsea after all – but everything he does will be analysed.
He is a young manager, too, and sometimes they can do well at big clubs. Chelsea have a lot of young players so can go in there and really make a difference.
