LAURA WOODS: A SAD DAY WHEN SALAH LEAVES THE PREMIER LEAGUE

SALAH A PREMIER LEAGUE LEGEND

Even as an Arsenal fan, Mohamed Salah’s pending departure from Liverpool has made me really sad.

The word legend is banded around a lot, but Mo is a Premier League legend in the truest sense of the word. Players like him are why we call our league the best in the world.

His first season at Liverpool was incredible – I’ll never forget it. The way he glided past people, so tricky and skilful. His numbers were obscene.

The Salah, [Sadio] Mane and [Roberto] Firmino front-three was so iconic. You couldn’t help but appreciate them, they were just so likeable and brilliant.

He helped bring an era of excellence to Liverpool and will forever be one of my favourite players.

I don’t think it’s his time yet, but he’s not looked happy for a while. I hate to see lights as bright as his go out, so maybe this is the right way to go.

It will make me very sad when he plays his last Premier League game.

CARABAO CUP FINAL

It’s a massive setback mentally for Arsenal. I’m a big believer in all of the mental stuff and I think losing in that manner was worrying.

They looked like a completely different side, particularly in the second half, from what we’ve seen all season.

I’m not one for being loyal to goalkeepers and Kepa has made far too many mistakes in Carabao Cup finals. I was very disappointed to see him picked over David Raya because at the top level you need to be brutal and there is no room for loyalty

It was a big error picking him and it cost Arsenal dear.

Kepa wasn’t the only one who put in a poor performance which does worry me in terms of the side’s mentality. Hopefully the little break will do them good, but I’m not sure.

NOT WORKING AT CHELSEA

When a manager comes in with so little experience like Liam Rosenior has done, questions are going to be asked and I think you have to listen to them.

Chelsea are a huge club and their fans will eat you up – just look what happened to Graham Potter.

It’s clearly turned sour quite quickly and I do think it’s a bit disappointing because he came in and clearly had his own ways of working which I thought was a bit of a breath of fresh air. I thought that would prove successful but it’s not working.

They aren’t just being beaten, they are being beaten comfortably and that’s got to be a big concern.

If things keep going as they are, the Chelsea hierarchy will have a decision to make.

HOWE DESERVES MORE TIME AT NEWCASTLE

I think if Eddie Howe isn’t in charge of Newcastle at the beginning of next season it would be very harsh.

The derby loss will sting the club and the fan base massively, though, while a beating by Barcelona in the Champions League and being out of both cups is bad enough, being 12th and below Sunderland isn’t a good look for Newcastle.

They are well established in the Premier League now, have some brilliant players, but are in need of more in the summer. Eddie’s brought this team Champions League football and their first silverware in a very long time.

He is the best English manager by far we have in this country. I’d be really disappointed to see him replaced. But if the reports are to be believed, his position is under review.
