Premier League Gameweek 9 Tips: 13/1 Acca
After an action-packed midweek of football in European competition, the Premier League has a packed weekend with one game on Friday, four on Saturday and five on Sunday.
We have picked out the best bets from the weekend’s matches, creating a five-game accumulator which comes in at odds of 13/1.
Tip 1 – Chelsea to beat Sunderland to nil @ 6/5
Chelsea received a shock last month when Brighton headed to Stamford Bridge and left with a 3-1 win, but Enzo Maresca’s side reacted well to that setback, which is bad news for Sunderland who head to London on Saturday.
The Blues, prior to facing Ajax at home in the Champions League on Wednesday, bounced back with successive victories over Benfica, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, so they should be expected to get the job done against their Wearside visitors.
The Black Cats have surprised many by the way they have adjusted back to top-flight life after regaining their status following victory in the Championship play-offs, but, while they have beaten West Ham, Brentford and Wolves at the Stadium of Light and claimed a 1-0 win at Forest, a visit to the Bridge is a whole different ball game.
Omar Alderete’s goal at the City Ground is the only one they have mustered in four away games, so the Blues can take the points without conceding.
Tip 2 – Newcastle to beat Fulham @ 3/5
Fulham have lost their last three Premier League games, against Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Arsenal, so it is difficult to see them getting anything from their trip to Newcastle’s St James’ Park.
The main problem for Cottagers boss Marco Silva is that his team are not creating enough chances - they have posted an expected-goals (xG) figure higher than 1.1 in just one game this season.
So they may not be able to threaten Newcastle much, especially as the Magpies should be buoyant following their 3-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal are the only visiting teams to have beaten Eddie Howe’s side at home this season and, while Fulham do punch about their weight in the Premier League, they cannot be considered in a similar class.
Tip 3 – Both teams to score in Manchester United vs Brighton @ 1/2
Victory at Anfield on Sunday will have given Manchester United and their manager Ruben Amorim a massive lift, but Brighton can be expected to play a full role in proceedings at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Home confidence levels will be high and United have won their last three home games against Sunderland, Chelsea and Burnley, but the Seagulls sprung a shock last month when they claimed a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge against the odds so they are difficult to rule out.
United have kept just one clean sheet in nine outings this season and, with both teams scoring in seven of Albion’s eight league games this term, this clash may not buck that particular trend.
Tip 4 – Both teams to score in Brentford vs Liverpool @ 4/7
Liverpool went into their Wednesday night appointment with Eintracht Frankfurt having lost four matches on the spin, and it may take them a while to get over last week’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
Arne Slot’s side created enough chances to win that game, but there seem to be issues in defence for the Reds with Virgil van Dijk not looking his usual self and regular goalkeeper Alisson sidelined.
Brentford look geared to take advantage of any issues despite being written off as relegation fodder by many at the start of the season.
The Bees won 2-0 at West Ham on Monday but the scoreline does not do justice to the scale of the victory and in Igor Thiago they have a big physical presence who could cause plenty of problems for the Reds’ rearguard, so go for both teams to score.
Tip 5 – Bournemouth to beat Nottingham Forest @ 3/4
Nottingham Forest have turned to their former apprentice Sean Dyche to help them out of the mire after Ange Postecoglou’s disastrous eight-game spell at the City Ground, but it may take a little while for the tricky trees to get up and running.
Dyche could have chosen an easy first league game at the helm than a trip to Bournemouth, who would have gone top of the league last week had they not been pegged back in a 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace.
Rampaging forward Antoine Semenyo is becoming one of the league’s star performers and the Cherries have not lost in the league since they were sunk by two late Liverpool goals at Anfield on the opening night.
Forest’s only league win came that weekend in a home win over Brentford and they face a mammoth task to get anything at the Vitality.
