UEFA Nations League Gameweek 5 Predictions & Tips

The Nations League finish line is in sight with just two rounds of matches remaining in the group stage of this season's competition.

The action resumes again on Thursday with England facing a tricky rematch with Greece in Athens, while Ireland host Finland and Italy take on Belgium in the day's glamour tie.

There is plenty still to sort out, and we have four bets to get stuck into.

Tip 1 - Greece to win & both teams score @ 8/1

Greece stunned England with a 2-1 win at Wembley last month and they can seal top spot in League B Group 2 with a follow-up victory in Athens this week.

The Greeks are three points clear of the Three Lions at the top and they will be keen to preserve their 100 per cent record which has seen them win all four matches in this competition.

Ivan Jovanovic's side produced a spirited performance in London last month and a lively welcome can be expected for England who were hugely disappointing in that defeat.

And it is unlikely the visitors will be as motivated as their hosts to secure all three points this week, with Lee Carsley set to be forced into a raft of changes following eight key withdrawals from his original squad.

Both teams have scored in six of England's last eight matches, so there is scope to expect an away goal, but Greece are in fine form and look a solid bet to extend their winning streak to six straight matches with another high-profile win on Thursday.

Tip 2 - Ireland to win & under 2.5 goals @ 15/8

Ireland is third behind Greece and England in League B2, and with one game to play, they can seal their place in the section at the expense of bottom-side Finland.

A 2-1 win in Helsinki last month lifted the Boys in Green above their fellow strugglers and they can do the double over the flailing Finns back on home soil in Dublin.

Finland has lost all four matches in the group and have scored just two goals along the way so a low-scoring encounter looks likely at the Aviva Stadium.

Last month's win was only the second time in nine outings that Ireland had managed two goals in a game and the floodgates are unlikely to open this week.

Finland has lost four of their five away matches in 2024, and Ireland is fancied to edge a cagey contest on Thursday.

Tip 3 - Italy to win & both teams score @ 9/2

Italy are closing in on promotion to the top group of the Nations League and they can maintain their progress with victory over Belgium on Thursday.

The Azzurri are a point ahead of France in the second tier and face Les Bleus in what could be a winner-takes-all encounter at the San Siro in Milan on Sunday evening.

First, though, they must take care of the Belgians and they head to the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels in fine shape, having lost just three of their last 19 matches in all competitions.

Italy's last outing was a 4-1 win over Israel and they also impressively beat France 3-1 at the start of the competition. A 2-2 draw with Belgium was achieved despite the Azzurri playing with ten men for over half of the match following Lorenzo Pellegrini's 40th-minute red card and they can go one better with a victory this week.

Belgium have won just two of their last eight matches in all competitions and they were beaten 2-1 by France on home soil last month.

A similar scoreline looks likely this week as Italy have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven outings.

Tip 4 - Austria & under 2.5 goals @ 5/2

League B Group 3 is finely poised with just two matches remaining as Norway, Austria and Slovenia are all locked on seven points after four rounds.

Austria get their chance to move into first place as they face the bottom side Kazakhstan on Thursday, ahead of a potentially group-deciding contest with Slovenia on Sunday.

Kazakhstan has offered little in this competition, losing three of their four matches, while failing to score in any of their fixtures so far.

Austria should have few issues securing three more points, and after beating these opponents 4-0 earlier in the campaign, should be backed to win with comfort once more.
