Scotland vs Denmark Tips: Hampden cauldron can seal World Cup spot

It all comes down to this.

In the unlikeliest of scenarios, Scotland got what they wanted over the weekend – an effective cup final for automatic World Cup qualification against Denmark at home.

Despite losing 3-2 away to Greece, the Danes’ draw against Belarus means Steve Clarke’s charges have their fate in their own hands.

Win and they are through. Anything else and it’s the play-offs.

The home crowd will be lively, to say the least, and that counts for a lot in nerve-shredding affairs such as these.

We’re backing a Scotland win and have come up with three tips to go along with it for the occasion…

Tip 1 – Scotland to win & over 2.5 goals @ 17/4

There’s so much riding on this. A first World Cup tournament since 1998 is in the offing for the Scots.

As such, this will be a highly emotional occasion and it’s in those moments that are fraught in nature where the hosts do their best work.

They haven’t made it easy and defeat to Greece is all the more frustrating given that they’d be in a much better position if they had won.

But in competitive games at home they’ve been tough to beat. Indeed, they have lost just one in five and can count creditable results like a draw with Portugal and a win against Croatia in that run.

While they are putting their fans through the absolute ringer, Scotland games have been easy on the eye in terms of goalmouth drama.

Each of their last three games has seen more than 2.5 goals scored. Scotland can win and we expect goals, too.

Tip 2 – Che Adams to score anytime @ 29/10

You can watch Che Adams’ miss against Greece on Saturday as many times as you want and still not come up with a rational explanation as to how it didn’t go in.

With an open goal, the keeper nowhere to be seen and just two virtually stationary defenders to beat, the Torino forward contrived to blast it at one of them on the goal-line.

However, Adams was getting into some very promising positions throughout the match.

He managed four shots, one of which found the target, and passed up on a couple of other shooting opportunities when he opted to pass instead.

Football is full of redemption arcs. Could we see Adams – who has scored against Belarus home and away already these qualifiers – make amends for those misses and prove some doubters wrong?

The 29/10 anytime scorer odds are attractive for a starting striker at home in a key game.

Tip 3 – Over 27.5 shots & over 9.5 corners @ 17/5

If you combine the number of shots and corners across both Denmark’s and Scotland’s last games, the total comes to 96 (66 shots and 30 corners).

True, there is context to those numbers: Denmark were pressing hard against a weaker team to find a winner and Scotland were trying to get back into the game having been three goals behind.

However, with so much on the line, it’s likely we will see at least one team lay waste to the opposing side’s goal.

As a speculative option, we think almost 3.5/1 for over 27.5 total shots and over 9.5 corners looks like very good value.
