Wales vs North Macedonia Tips: Back Bellamy & co. to end on high
Craig Bellamy and his Wales team have had a turbulent qualifying campaign.
Being on the wrong side of two goal-heavy thrillers against Belgium means they must beat North Macedonia to guarantee a home semi-final in a one-off tie against a lower-ranked team in the play-offs next year.
Lose and they would still advance to the play-offs as a result of their Nations League-winning campaign but would be one of the lowest seeds facing one of the best remaining teams in a one-off tie away from home. The stakes are high.
Failure to score more in a tepid and disappointing 1-0 win over Liechtenstein means that, despite being level on points with North Macedonia, goal difference is not in their favour.
However, they’ve also secured some notable results. Home and away wins to Kazakhstan – a team that drew 1-1 with Belgium over the weekend – is a good example of how far they’ve come.
We’re feeling positive that the Red Dragon will breathe fire on Tuesday evening. Take a look at our best bets for the Group H finale…
Tip 1 – Wales to win & under 2.5 goals @ 9/4
This will be tense but Wales will have the backing of what should be a raucous and vociferous Cardiff City Stadium.
Their record at home is relatively solid. Before recent defeats to Belgium and Canada, they had gone on a 10-match unbeaten run when playing in front of their own supporters.
In two of their previous three qualifying matches, Wales secured 1-0 wins. North Macedonia, meanwhile, have scored just once in their previous three games.
It’s hard to see this one being a goalfest and it feels like if Wales are to do it, they’ll do it the nerve-shredding, white-knuckle, edge-of-your-seat way.
Tip 2 – Harry Wilson to score anytime @ 9/5
A talismanic figure in the Welsh national team, Harry Wilson is a very real and present threat that North Macedonia may struggle to contain.
A direct runner and extremely hard-working, Wilson is a defender’s worst nightmare in many respects.
Pestering, pressing, busy and enterprising, he knows how to put his teams into good positions high up the field.
He also loves a long-range effort and takes free-kicks to boot.
This game may be decided by one bit of genius… and Wilson could be the man to provide it.
Tip 3 – Neco Williams over 1.5 shots on target @ 11/1
The marauding Nottingham Forest full-back likes to get forward and try his luck.
Indeed, in his previous four games for his country, he’s managed seven attempts, with one of those finding the target.
He also averages one shot per game for a struggling Nottingham Forest outfit in the Premier League.
He’s attack-minded and will provide a genuine threat for Wales from the flanks.
At 11/1, we think over 1.5 shots on target is a very reasonable price.
