Phoenix Open Golf Betting Tips
It's time for the 'Greatest Show on Grass' with this week's PGA Tour event heading to TPC Scottsdale in Arizona for the Phoenix Open, where two-time champion Scottie Scheffler is a warm 9/4 favourite.
The world number one, who claimed the spoils in 2022 and 2023, landed The American Express two weeks ago on his sole start in 2026 and he will be eager to pick up from where he left off.
However, the US star is one of 10 former major champions in the field, along with 11 of the top 20 in the world, and there are plenty of players who will fancy their chances of lifting the trophy.
Dubbed 'The People's Open', the huge crowds make for a raucous atmosphere and there are bound to be some entertaining scenes at the famed "Coliseum" par-3 16th hole, which has seen several memorable moments over the years.
Tip 1 – Sam Burns to win (each-way) @ 22/1
It is getting close to three years since Sam Burns last tasted success on the PGA Tour - at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in March 2023 - but he has had several near-misses during this period and a sixth title on the US circuit doesn't seem far away.
The 29-year-old American has been in strong form from August onwards, having finished tied-fourth at the BMW Championship, tied-seventh at the Tour Championship and T13 at the Procore Championship.
His last appearance of 2025 produced an 11th-placed effort at the Hero World Challenge and Burns looked in decent shape when making his first start of 2026 at The American Express, taking a share of 27th position.
Burns was tied-sixth at the Phoenix Open in 2023 before improving on that result when sharing third place 12 months later, ending up three shots behind Canadian winner Nick Taylor.
The world number 27 has looked solid from tee to green over the last few months and he is capable of landing this title for the first time.
Tip 2 – Chris Gotterup to win (each-way) @ 45/1
Chris Gotterup has been on an upward trajectory since making his PGA Tour breakthrough at the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic and he arrives at the Phoenix Open as a three-time winner at this level.
The 26-year-old won the Genesis Scottish Open in July last year, holding off Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge, before he then recorded his best Major finish when third at The Open at Royal Portrush a week later.
Having enjoyed a solid 2025 season, Gotterup started off his 2026 campaign in red-hot fashion by winning the Sony Open in Hawaii, before finishing tied-18th at last week's Farmers Insurance Open.
The American ranks fifth in strokes gained tee-to-green this season - an area that has proven crucial to previous success at TPC Scottsdale - and it would be no surprise to see him in the mix come Sunday.
Tip 3 – Haotong Li to win (each-way) @ 90/1
Chinese ace Haotong Li earned one of the 10 PGA Tour cards on offer after his consistent DP World Tour season and he has started to hit his stride on the US circuit in the last two weeks.
The 30-year-old was tied-eighth at The American Express and tied-11th at the Farmers Insurance Open, both of those results coming on his tournament debuts, and he can handle his first crack at the Phoenix Open.
Li, who has opted to play in Arizona and not defend his Qatar Masters title on the DP World Tour, is sixth in strokes gained tee-to-green and 18th in greens in regulation this season.
Ranked 64th in the world, Li is in a confident mood and he can put in another good strong showing.
