Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Chester May Festival Day 3 Tips

FRIDAY RACING TIPS

Chester 1.30 – Seven-furlong Handicap

I like the look of Two Tempting (7/2 joint fav) in this.

He’s got the plum draw in stall one and ran nicely at Newbury last time. He won’t mind the ground and has won over this course and distance.

I’m not sure he’s well-handicapped but he can still be competitive off this sort of mark and he looks likely to go well here.

Megan’s Tip: Two Tempting WIN

Chester 2.35 – Huxley Stakes

Space Legend (4/1) had some pretty solid form last year and I think the gelding operation might really help him.

He looked a bit of a thinker at times last season so that might just bring out that bit of improvement.

William Haggas has had a great start to the season and his runner here looks the one that has the most scope for improvement.

The Foxes (5/4 fav) is the solid option and has plenty of solid form in the book, too.

I just wonder if we know where we are with him – I’m not sure there’s much more improvement in him, whereas I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Space Legend yet.

Megan’s Tip: The Foxes WIN

Chester 3.05 – Chester Cup

BetMGM are paying five places on the Chester Cup and it looks typically competitive big-field handicap.

Wide draws have been able to win this race in recent years but I’m looking at the lower-drawn ones.

Hot Fuss (8/1) looks a very solid each-way proposition. He’s nicely drawn in three and had a good campaign over hurdles but has also run on the all-weather as prep for this.

Tom Dascombe loves having winners at Chester and I feel his charge might just be a few pounds ahead of the handicapper, which is almost a must in this sort of race.

He was fourth when last seen in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham and could prove very well-treated back on the Flat if repeating that sort of form.

Megan’s Tip: Hot Fuss EW

Chester 3.40 – 1m 2f handicap

Rathgar (6/1) is the one I’m keen on here.

Although he’s drawn in stall 10, he’s usually pretty sharp out of the gates and is ridden pretty prominently.

He ran well at Epsom last time and the form has held up nicely, so I can see him going close for Jack Channon, whose horses have hit form.

Rathgar seems to go well at quirky tracks so Chester could suit and he’s the one for me in this 1m 2f contest.

Megan’s Tip: Rathgar WIN
