Epsom Derby Festival Day 2 Tips
SATURDAY RACING TIPS
Epsom 2.40 – Coronation Cup
Calandagan (11/10) can reverse the form with Jan Brueghel (2/1) in the Coronation Cup.
Since that defeat he looks an improved horse to me and has been in scintillating form across the globe. He’s one of the best horses in the world and can prove that again here under Mikael Barzalona.
Megan’s Tip: Calandagan WIN
Epsom 3.15 – Dash Handicap
Always a really tricky race to find the winner of with BetMGM paying five places each-way.
I think it’s going to be draw-dependent with the soft ground, and you’re going to need to be drawn high.
I’d imagine Kinswoman (4/1) will be a short-enough favourite as she’s done little wrong in her career so far and looks the type that will love the rising ground at Epsom.
She’s handled cut in the ground too and has a good draw in 17, so there are plenty of positives.
At a bigger price, I thought Arklow Lad (9/1) might go okay. He won at Pontefract on slower ground on his penultimate start and ran respectably at York last time, so could go nicely from stall 20.
Megan’s Tip: Kinswoman WIN; Arklow Lad EW
Epsom 4.00 – Derby
I’ve been pretty strong on Benvenuto Cellini (15/8f) since I saw him in the flesh at Chester.
He has really improved and developed from two to three, and he proved at Chester that he’s a strong stayer at the trip.
We all know this has always been the Ballydoyle main Derby hope for a while and he’s the one they’ve all got to beat in my opinion.
If you’re looking for one at a bigger price, I’d go with James J Braddock (9/1).
He will love the underfoot conditions, and the way he finished off his race last time suggests this step up in trip will really suit him
Megan’s Tip: Benvenuto Cellini WIN; James J Braddock EW
