Market Rasen 2.10 – Summer Handicap Hurdle
I’ll go with Mojito Des Mottes (11/2) in the Summer Hurdle.
I think this has probably been the long-term plan, he was declared a couple of times and didn’t run through this summer.
He was unlucky at Ascot – when he arguably should have won but got stuck in a lot of traffic on the home turn. He still made up an amazing amount of ground to fly home and finish second.
I think that was a pretty tidy juvenile race and this looks like a nice opportunity for him on his return with Harry Cobden on board for JP McManus.
I think this is a well-placed and well-handicapped horse.

Market Rasen 2.45 – Summer Plate Handicap Chase
Kingston Narcissus (11/4 fav) has cheekpieces on for the first time.
He’s been running well and going back up to the two and a half will help him.
Kingston Narcissus is pretty consistent and I think you can make a couple of question marks for plenty of them in the field.
He’ll like the ground. He does lack a small bit of scope – he’s not the biggest but his jumping has been consistent enough on the last couple of runs for the Skeltons.
I think he could go one better than last time and could well be the winner of this year’s Plate, which I don’t think is the strongest renewal in the last few seasons.

Newbury 3.02 – Hackwood Stakes
In the Hackwood I’m going with Song Of The Clyde (9/2), who wasn’t beaten far in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
That was arguably a career-best and he was a winner over course and distance prior to that.
He’s a pretty consistent horse, proving he’s trained on from a good two-year-old campaign.
He likes this quick ground and likes the course as we know.
I think he is overpriced here; it’s an open contest and, on the back of his effort in Group 1 company, he should be very competitive dropping back down here.

Newbury 3.37 – Super Sprint Stakes
Sky Secret (7/1) won on his second start at Leicester and took a step forward from his first to his second start.
Clive Cox is particularly good with his sprinters and this horse is in really good form; I think he can improve again.
Sky Secret was well fancied on debut when beaten – he was a bit raw but took a good step forward and was much more professional when he won on that second start.
It looks like plenty of the fancied runners are drawn high and he is up amongst them.
He travels well and has got enough pace to hold a good position early over the minimum distance. I think he can back up his last win.
My each-way selection here is Zigazig Ah (14/1) for Richard Spencer.
She won fairly easily at Yarmouth on her second start after coming second on debut at Lingfield. She looks like the type that can improve and is also drawn quite high.
