Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Sandown Tips
SATURDAY RACING TIPS
Sandown 1.50 – Middle Distance Veterans' Handicap Chase
This is a pretty trappy contest and in all honesty I found it pretty hard to come down on one.
I’ve gone with Triple Trade (11/4), who runs in a veterans’ race for the first time having won at Cheltenham on his seasonal debut and then backing that up with a good third at the track when last seen.
Both of those performances suggest he’s still off a workable mark and he might just have the class edge in this field.
Megan’s Tip: Triple Trade WIN
Sandown 2.25 – Listed Mares' Hurdle
I can’t quite see why Jubilee Alpha (11/10 fav) is so short given the way Nurse Susan (9/4) beat her last time.
Granted, Jubilee Alpha had a pretty bad trip there and had the same at Wincanton the time before, but I’m not sure there was much of a fluke to it and I fancy Dan Skelton’s filly to win again.
One note of caution, she has been made a non-runner on good ground previously, so I wouldn't be surprised if that happens again if the ground is as quick as it’s predicted to be.
Megan’s Tip: Nurse Susan WIN
Sandown 3.05 – Veterans' Handicap Chase
I’m pretty keen on Gustavian (10/3) here.
He absolutely bolted up at Wincanton on his last run and takes on older horses now. I’m not sure this is any stronger a race and while he’s up in the weights, I don’t think that will stop him based on what he did last time.
He’s been given a break since and the ground is perfect, so I’m expecting a bold show.
Megan’s Tip: Gustavian WIN
Sandown 3.35 – 2m Handicap Hurdle
Nardaran (17/2) deserves another go after blowing out at Plumpton last time where he was never really going. It was too bad to be true and I’m expecting him to bounce back with a big performance here.
He’s won over this course and distance before and while he does have to give weight away to all, I’m quite hopeful he’ll have the ability to do so.
Megan’s Tip: Nardaran WIN
Odds correct at time of publication but subject to fluctuation
