Newmarket July Festival Day 2 Tips
There’s another day of top-class action ahead at Newmarket on Friday afternoon with a seven-race card.
The feature race is the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes, which looks like an above average renewal and has attracted a field of eight runners this year.
We have selections and analysis for all the races on Friday’s card including a last time out winner that can go in again.
13:50 – Newmarket - Handicap
Plenty of nice middle distance prospects in this contest, perhaps none more so than the top weight, King’s Charter.
The form of his win last time out is working out nicely with multiple winners coming out of the race and his dam stayed this distance so he has untapped potential stepping up in trip.
Selection: King’s Charter
14:25 – Newmarket - Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes
Malton trainer Tim Easterby doesn’t send many down to Newmarket these days, but Argentine Tango is a filly to be interested in on Friday.
She followed up a win in a valuable Beverley novice with a Listed win over this course and distance to gain a third career win (runner-up on other two starts) and her wealth of experience at this stage of her career should hold her in good stead stepping up in class this time.
Selection: Argentine Tango
15:00 – Newmarket - Trophy Heritage Handicap
A few of these are well-in after some big recent efforts and Real Dream is due to go up 6lb when the handicapper has his say after a narrow defeat at Sandown when beaten half a length behind Coltrane.
That looks like the strongest recent form in the book and it’s still early days for his new yard who excel with their stayers.
Selection: Real Dream
15:35 – Newmarket - Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes
There’s each-way betting in the feature race on Friday, with eight runners declared and one who may represent a bit of value from a place perspective is Running Lion.
She set unsustainable fractions at Royal Ascot last time when only fading late on and there’s a chance of an uncontested lead against these rivals, something she couldn’t obtain with other front runners in the line-up at the Royal meeting.
Selection: Running Lion
16:10 – Newmarket - Weatherbys British EBF Maiden Stakes
A host of well-bred newcomers are in the seven furlong maiden, but experience is a key factor in such races at this venue and Hengroin could prove to be a tough nut to crack.
He took a big step forward to finish runner-up at Windsor last time and he could improve again for a step up in distance.
Selection: Hengroin
16:45 – Newmarket - Dubai Racing Club Handicap
Backing trainer Edward Smyth-Osbourne representatives has returned a cracking level stakes profit over the last few seasons and Up The Pace may have been underestimated in his hat-trick bid.
He was good value for the winning margin at Doncaster last time out and a 4lb rise for that success looks on the lenient side from the assessor.
Selection: Up The Pace
17:20 – Newmarket - debenhams.com Handicap
Master Of My Fate may be capable of obtaining an uncontested lead in this contest and that can often be an advantage over this course and distance.
He uncharacteristically missed the kick at Ayr last time but still ran with credit to finish third and he was impressive when battling on gamely from the front at Lingfield on his penultimate outing.
Selection: Master Of My Fate
