NFL Week 3 Betting Tips & Preview
Week 3 of the NFL season brings plenty of primetime drama and it gets underway on Thursday night when the undefeated Buffalo Bills host the Miami Dolphins.
Sunday's slate features another stern test for the reigning Super Bowl champions as the Los Angeles Rams seek a third win in a row while two undefeated AFC West rivals meet in the late window with the San Francisco 49ers entertaining the Arizona Cardinals.
We've picked out four of the week's best bets for the big games which conclude on Monday night when the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions slug it out in Maryland.
TIP 1 – BUFFALO BILLS -12 @ 22/25
Buffalo Bills vs Miami Dolphins (Friday, 1:15am BST)
The Bills have dominated this AFC East rivalry in recent years, winning 13 of their last 14 meetings with Miami and sweeping the Dolphins in each of the past three seasons.
Josh Allen is expected to start despite a minor injury scare as the Bills thrashed the Jets 30-10 last week.
Buffalo's defence appears elite once again after they held the dysfunctional Jets to just one garbage-time touchdown at MetLife Stadium.
The point spread looks pretty big at 12, but the Bills covered on two of the three occasions that they were favoured by double-digits last season, only failing when they rested most of their starters against the New England Patriots in Week 18.
Miami's offense has sputtered early in the season, and they've dropped to third in the division's pecking order. With the Bills Mafia behind them and a top-five pass rush, Buffalo should cover comfortably.
Remember: BetMGM is paying out early when your team takes a 17-point lead, regardless of the final result. More information can be found here.
TIP 2 – OVER 44.5 POINTS in EAGLES VS RAMS @ 10/11
Philadelphia Eagles vs Los Angeles Rams (Sunday, 6pm BST)
This NFC clash is a rematch of January's Divisional Round, where the Eagles arguably had their toughest test of the postseason.
Philly have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the teams and will be confident of extending that streak at Lincoln Financial Field, where they have won 11 straight.
But it may be safer to play the total rather than the points spread here because the Eagles are going up against a Rams team that can hurt them.
Matthew Stafford picked apart the Tennessee Titans' defence impressively last week, throwing for 268 yards and two TDs.
The Rams' receivers have been seeing more targets than their Eagles counterparts, which may be becoming a minor problem for Philly.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has yet to hit top gear but he will be determined to get DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown more involved in the offense.
Expect points – both teams have averaged over 22 per game so far and last January's playoff game featured 50 in total.
TIP 3 – 49ERS TO WIN (MONEYLINE) @ 4/5
San Francisco 49ers vs Arizona Cardinals (Sunday, 9:25pm BST)
The 49ers return to Levi's Stadium for a divisional clash with the Cardinals, and they'll be confident after winning both meetings last season by double digits.
With Brock Purdy sidelined, Mac Jones stepped in last week and threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints.
If any further proof were needed that Kyle Shanahan's system is a quarterback's dream, Jones looked more like a top-15 draft pick than he ever did in New England.
The Niners will feed Christian McCaffrey plenty of touches again, but the Cardinals' defence held the Panthers to a mere 49 yards rushing last week, so more Jones magic may be required.
Arizona are 2-0 but have yet to face a playoff-calibre opponent. Kyler Murray will need to be at his best, but San Francisco's pass rush and disciplined secondary should keep the game in check.
TIP 4 – OVER 51.5 POINTS @ 10/11
Baltimore Ravens vs Detroit Lions (Tuesday, 1:15am BST)
Monday Night Football should be epic as Lamar Jackson and the Ravens host Jared Goff's Lions in what could be the highest-scoring game of the week.
Baltimore rebounded from a heart breaking Week 1 loss to the Bills by delivering a 41-10 beatdown of the Cleveland Browns.
The Ravens have the hottest offense in the NFL right now and will fancy their chances of lighting up a Lions defence that still had a few shaky moments in their big win over the Chicago Bears.
Both teams are capable of putting up some big numbers, and with the total set at 51.5, this one looks good for overs players.
