WORLD SERIES OF DARTS FINALS TIPS: 4 VALUE BETS FOR AMSTERDAM

Luke Littler has a title to defend as the PDC’s global roadshow concludes in Amsterdam with the 32-man World Series of Darts Finals at AFAS Live from September 12-14.

With a tricky format that sees the early rounds played over a brisk best-of-11 legs before stretching to a best-of-19 for the quarters and 21 for the semis and final, the World Series Finals kickstarts a run of five PDC major tournaments in a little over three months.

As the world’s elite descend on the Dutch capital, we’ve found a few angles that could prove profitable.

Tip 1 – Luke Littler to win Q3 & Gerwyn Price to win Q4 @ 41/20

Defending champion Littler arrives having won the last two World Series events Down Under.

The Nuke already possesses the World Championship, UK Open, World Matchplay and Grand Slam of Darts titles and is the only player on the circuit with a calendar-year average over 100.

He starts his defence against veteran Simon Whitlock – who spends more time playing Modus Super Series events these days – and has a considerable winning record against presumed principal quarter three rivals Jonny Clayton and Nathan Aspinall.

Indeed, the 18-year-old dismantled Clayton 11-6 behind a 106 average in the UK Open semis and whitewashed Aspinall in the BetMGM Premier League by winning all six meetings.

Yes, Aspinall has since beaten him twice in World Series events, but it is exceedingly unlikely Littler allows that to become a hat-trick and he holds a 15-3 head-to-head record against the Asp overall.

Little and Price to win their quarters

In the bottom quarter, Gerwyn Price is enjoying a renaissance.

The Welshman has lifted the Polish Darts Masters and Baltic Sea Open trophies this year and sits second only to Littler for 110+ averages.

While he hasn't progressed past the second round here in a couple of years he is a two-time champion of the event, with one of those victories coming at this very Amsterdam venue.

And his draw looks favourable.

World number 92 Danny Lauby is first up while a potential quarter-final against Chris Dobey holds no fear – Price has won six of their 10 meetings this year and, historically, the Newcastle thrower has struggled to put winning runs together against the Iceman.

Combining Littler and Price to win their quarters should ensure coverage through to the business end of the tournament.

Tip 2 – Damon Heta vs Joe Cullen over 4.5 180s, Luke Humphries most 180s vs James Wade & Wessel Nijman vs Michael van Gerwen over 5.5 180s @ 23/5

For those who love to see the treble 20 get a peppering, this maximums treble offers plenty of appeal across Friday’s session.

Damon Heta and Joe Cullen have a habit of producing fireworks when they meet, with their handful of clashes over the last three years all containing at least six 180s.

Heta’s maximum hitting often rises with his level of opponent so, with Cullen a noted 180 hitter himself, expect them to trade blows throughout giving over 4.5 180s every chance of landing.

Next, it’s Luke Humphries to have the most 180s in his match against James Wade.

It’s true Wade has increased his maximum count this year – and made two major finals alongside it – but he is still playing catch-up to the likes of Humphries and the world number one has won the 180s battle in eight of their last nine encounters.

Having just beaten Wade 7-1 in the semi-finals of last weekend's Czech Darts Open, Cool Hand holds all the aces for this one too.

Finally, we round off with over 5.5 180s in the Dutch derby between Wessel Nijman and Michael van Gerwen.

The stats point to a flurry of maximums. Their three previous meetings, all in shorter format events like this World Series Finals first round tie, have produced an average of 6.3 180s per match.

Nijman is also one of the most prolific maximum hitters on tour with over 350 this year. In a best-of-11 match, there’s a strong likelihood this one goes deep and sails past the required total.

Tip 3 – Peter Wright to beat Cameron Menzies @ 29/20

In a battle of the Scots, the value lies with the veteran on Saturday afternoon.

While the talented Cameron Menzies defeated Peter Wright in a floor final back in April, the big stage is a different beast entirely.

Wright lives for the roar of a huge crowd and has made the semi-finals in three of the previous five editions of this tournament, including each of the last two.

Menzies vs Wright Tale of the Tape

Snakebite rolled back the years at the World Championship and his stage experience is a massive advantage against an opponent who has shown fragility in TV majors.

Despite his rising floor form Menzies is yet to reach a major quarter-final so, at 29/20, backing two-time world champion Wright to show his class against his compatriot makes sense.

Tip 4 – Josh Rock to win the World Series Finals @ 7/1

While the two Lukes have hogged the headlines, the man carrying the most momentum into Amsterdam is arguably Josh Rock.

The Northern Irishman has found another gear entirely in recent months, rocketing his nation to a famous World Cup of Darts triumph in June before reaching the semi-finals of the last two majors.

His form is simply electric: over the past four months he’s averaging above 100 and boasts a checkout percentage north of 43%.

World Series of Darts Finals Odds

His path to World Series of Darts Finals glory is fraught with danger, with the likes of Stephen Bunting, Damon Heta and Joe Cullen in his quarter as well as a potential semi-final against Luke Humphries or Michael van Gerwen.

But Rocky is playing at a level where he fears no one. At 7/1, there’s tremendous value in backing him to slice through the field and claim a maiden singles major, with the 5/2 each-way odds for a top-two finish providing a very appealing safety net.
