Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Betting Tips
The DP World Tour heads to Scotland this week for the only pro-am tournament on the circuit, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Players will get to test themselves on three great courses, Kingsbarns, the Open venue of Carnoustie and the Old Course at St Andrews with pairings getting the opportunity to test themselves on all the courses over the first three days before the climax at the home of golf on Sunday.
Matthew Fitzpatrick will defend the title and Rory McIlroy will be hoping to finally get over the line after finishing second at both of his last two events, the Irish Open and BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The world number three has twice been runner-up in this tournament, but will face a serious challenge from some of the game’s biggest names, not least a strong contingent from the LIV Tour that includes Jon Rahm, five-time Major winner Brooks Koepka and two-time Dunhill Links winner Tyrrell Hatton.
Tip 1 - Tyrrell Hatton to Win @ 11/1
Jon Rahm was the big switcher to the LIV Tour for the season that has just finished and the Spaniard justified his decision by claiming the top individual prize, but it was also a strong campaign for the other marquee signing Tyrrell Hatton.
The Englishman finished fourth in the standings behind the former Masters winner, Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia and his closing efforts to the season included a win in Nashville, third in Andalucia, second at the UK get-together in Staffordshire and then fourth in the final tournament in Chicago.
He returned to DP World Tour action last week when he was tenth at the Spanish Open and he needs valuable world ranking points this autumn to ensure he has no concerns about playing in the Majors.
This looks a tournament where he can make more ground as he triumphed in 2016 and 2017, and provided evidence that there was nothing flukey about those successes by posting finishes of 3-15-2-7 since.
Hatton, who will be playing alongside his father this week, is plainly at home both on links terrain and in this format, so it would be a big surprise if he didn’t make a massive impression this week.
Tip 2 - Robert MacIntyre Win & Each Way @ 20/1
Another player who will be turning out alongside his dad is home hope Robert MacIntyre, who has really kicked on in the last 12 months and deserves his place among the market leaders.
MacIntyre made his breakthrough on the PGA Tour this year when he won the Canadian Open in June and he was a popular winner at the Scottish Open the following month having finished as runner-up the previous year.
Making the PGA Tour Championship was a fine achievement, but he has not been one to rest on his laurels, proving his links game was in fine fettle by finishing fifth at the Irish Open at Royal County Down and then posting a 12th-place finish last time out at the BMW PGA at Wentworth.
MacIntyre’s 20th place in 2022 was the best he has managed in four attempts to win this tournament but he is clearly a stronger player these days and a threat at this level, so he can expect another strong week.
Tip 3 - Grant Forrest Win & Each Way @ 80/1
Another strong Scottish challenge could come from further down the list as Grant Forrest looks a lively outsider to triumph this week.
Forrest has produced top-ten finishes on the last two occasions he has played in the Alfred Dunhill Links, so he clearly enjoys the format and his recent performances have been strong.
He was tied for fifth at the Irish Open with an effort that included a closing 66 and he was one of a cluster of players who were third at last week’s Spanish Open when his Sunday 64 was the best of the day.
Forrest probably could not be more confident of performing well this week and he could force his way up to challenge some of the big names at the head of the market.
