Memorial Tournament Golf Betting Tips

It's all off to Jack's Place just outside Columbus, Ohio for the Memorial, the seventh of eight signature events on this year's PGA Tour.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler will tee it up at Muirfield Village as the defending champion and a 64-69 weekend at the Charles Schwab in Fort Worth for a fourth-placed finish showed the recently crowned USPGA champion's game is in good order.

All the big names will be playing The Memorial with the exception of Rory McIlroy, who has been heading for somewhere close to the drawing board after his Quail Hollow no-show.

Tiger Woods won The Memorial five times while recent winners include Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay (twice) and Scheffler, suggesting the cream rises to the top at picture-perfect Muirfield Village.

Tip 1 – Si Woo Kim each way @ 33/1

That Scottie Scheffler didn't ever really threaten to get into the mix at the Charles Schwab was something of a surprise given it wasn't the strongest field at Colonial, but the chances of that happening again this week look slim.

Scheffler is in Muirfield Village as the reigning Memorial champion and on a tight, tough, long course with smallish greens and low winning totals, only consistently strong and focused players are likely to be in the mix.

So Scheffler, therefore, goes on any shortlist although given how tough Jack's Place is odds of 3/1 are pretty unappealing.

The cast list is star-studded with former winners galore, players in good form and genuine alternatives, among them Si Woo Kim.

The world No. 59 has had a quintet of top-30 finishes since a missed cut at the Texas Open and he has a soft spot for The Memorial.

In his last five visits he has never finished lower than T18, has never missed the cut since first gracing the place in 2016, and as a player who leads the Tour in Par-5 scoring on a course where only the par fives are truly gettable, he has to be a major consideration.

Tip 2 – Patrick Cantlay each way @ 16/1

The question, when will Rory McIlroy complete the slam, has been answered. Now we can ponder the second-most asked question on Tour - when will Patrick Cantlay win again?

Cantlay is an eight-time winner but hasn't been pictured holding a trophy since winning the BMW Championship almost three years ago.

The Ryder Cup star has had fewer near-misses than usual this year - three top-fives, most recently fourth at the Truist - but he clearly loves the look of the Muirfeld Village layout having triumphed there twice.

Tip 3 – Sepp Straka each way @ 35/1

Surely the most unheralded member of the world's top 10 has to be Sepp Straka, who can be a serious contender this week.

The Austrian, twice a winner on Tour this year, returns to action after his missed cut at the USPGA, the second major of the year where he didn't make the weekend.

Nicely rested after a week off, Straka can continue his improvements at Muirfield Village by making the top six at the very least.

Placed 16th two years ago and tied for fifth 12 months ago, the trajectory is only one way and the man who heads the GIR stats on Tour - critical on a course where the targets are small - can flourish.

It is also worth noting that the only holes at Muirfield Village which play below their par are the four par fives and the Austrian is T1 in Par-5 Scoring this year.
