PGA Championship Golf Betting Tips

This week brings the second Major of the golf season with the US PGA Championship taking place at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

Scottie Scheffler will have high hopes of defending the title he won at Quail Hollow last year, but he will be mindful that Rory McIlroy will also have his eyes on the Wanamaker Trophy after winning the Masters for the second year in a row at Augusta last month.

However, this is far from being a two-horse race and there looks to be plenty of value further down the outright market of one of the most eagerly awaited tournaments of the year.

Young continues to progress

Tip 1 – Cameron Young each-way @ 12/1

While Scheffler and McIlroy will enjoy most of the attention this week, Cameron Young has the potential to upset the big two and get his hands on his first Major trophy.

It is hard to believe that the world number three had not gained a PGA Tour success before he came out on top at the Wyndham Championship in August, but that has released the millstone from his neck and he has registered 10 top-10 finishes since that success.

Among those performances was a third spot at the Masters, but, more impressively, he won the Players Championship, which is hailed by many as the unofficial fifth Major, and Young also claimed a six-shot success at the Cadillac Championship just a fortnight ago.

He has the driving ability to take Aronimink in his stride and his disappointing 74 in the final round of last week’s Truist Championship should only heighten his determination to produce a strong showing and claim that Major.

Course form is a boost for Rose

Tip 2 – Justin Rose each-way @ 45/1

While last year’s venue, Quail Hollow, is a familiar stop on the PGA Tour circuit, the same cannot be said of Aronimink, which hosts this tournament for the first time since 1962 and hasn’t entertained elite men’s golf since the 2018 BMW Championship, which was won by Keegan Bradley.

Justin Rose was beaten in a playoff that week and he is the only other course winner in the field following his success at the 2010 AT&T National.

While he is getting to grips with some new clubs, he is dangerous to dismiss due to his ability to be right in the mix in Majors, despite the fact the 2013 US Open champion is now 45.

He was third behind McIlroy and Scheffler at Augusta, 12 months after he had been beaten in a Masters playoff for the second time, and he was also runner-up in the 2024 Open when Xander Schauffele won at Royal Troon.

Rose missed the cut last year, but he finished no lower than 13th in his previous five tilts at the Wanamaker Trophy, so he is worth including in the staking plan.

Gotterup could make the step up

Tip 3 – Chris Gotterup each-way @ 55/1

The last 10 winners of the PGA Championship have all been American and Chris Gotterup could add his name to that list at Aronimink.

He missed the cut in his only previous PGA appearance at Valhalla two years ago, but he has improved greatly since that effort and he now deserves to be respected in elite company.

He won the Scottish Open, which always attracts a strong field, a week before he finished third when Scheffler captured The Claret Jug at Royal Portrush, and he has kicked on in 2026.

Gotterup made a strong start to the year by winning the Sony Open and then also claimed the Phoenix Open, so don’t be surprised if he forces his way into the picture this week.
