St Jude Championship Golf Betting Tips
This week's St Jude Championship marks the beginning of the FedEx Cup playoffs, with the top 69 players descending upon TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.
With Rory McIlroy opting to miss this event the field of 70 has been reduced by one – but there is still plenty of quality on show with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Aberg in attendance.
The top 50 in the FedEx Cup rankings after the conclusion of the St Jude will qualify for next week's BMW Championship, with the leading 30 following events at Caves Valley Golf Club competing in the Tour Championship.
World number one Scheffler, the reigning PGA and Open champion, is the favourite to record his fifth win of the year and increase his lead at the top of the FedEx standings.
TIP 1 – HARRIS ENGLISH TO WIN (EACH-WAY) @ 40/1
While plenty of attention will be on the likes of Scheffler, Schauffele and Aberg, there looks to be value further down the betting and Harris English is the headline selection.
The American, at a career-high seventh in the world, has been one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour this season and he landed his fifth title on the US circuit at the Farmers Insurance in January.
He was close to a first major victory this year, ending up tied-second at the PGA and runner-up at the Open Championship, and the 36-year-old has fond memories of his trips to Memphis.
English won on his TPC Southwind debut in 2013, finishing two strokes ahead of Phil Mickelson and Scott Stallings, while he was fourth in 2021 and registered a top 10 in 2017.
TIP 2 – CHRIS GOTTERUP TO WIN (EACH-WAY) @ 50/1
One player making his course debut this week will be Chris Gotterup – and his form leading into this tournament suggests he could pick up the third PGA Tour title of his career.
The American won the Scottish Open, co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour, three starts ago and then proceeded to record his best major finish when grabbing third place at the Open.
Gotterup, who was tied 10th at the 3M Open last time out, has been razor-sharp on approach this season and he has the skills and confidence to get into the mix this week.
TIP 3 – MATT FITZPATRICK TO WIN (EACH-WAY) @ 25/1
After a poor start to the season, Matt Fitzpatrick has managed to turn things around over the last couple of months and will fancy his chances of winning at TPC Southwind, where he has two top-five finishes and a top 10 from six efforts.
The Englishman's form leading into this tournament is impressive, with a tied 17th at the Travelers Championship followed by a share of eighth at the Rocket Classic and a T4 at the Scottish Open.
He performed well in his quest for a first Claret Jug at the Open, ending up tied fourth for the second week in a row, before the 30-year-old returned to US shores with a share of eighth at the Wyndham Championship.
Fitzpatrick's confidence has certainly returned after a barren period and he will be eager to put in a good performance, not only to get closer to the top 30 in the FedEx rankings but to also increase his chances of making Europe's Ryder Cup team.
