The OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF BETTING TIPS
The cream of golfing talent heads to Northern Ireland this week to battle it out for the final major of the year: the Open Championship.
World number one Scottie Scheffler heads the market at Royal Portrush looking for not only his fourth victory of the year, but also an improvement on the seventh place he managed at Royal Troon 12 months ago.
There is nothing Rory McIlroy would like more than to triumph in his own backyard in the year he finally took his place in the game’s history by completing the career grand slam of majors.
The Masters champion will fancy his chances after he finished second at last week’s Scottish Open, while Shane Lowry should also be full of beans as he revisits the location where he experienced his greatest day when he claimed the Claret Jug by a six-shot margin in 2019.
However, there are a host of other hopefuls who will be looking to tame the 7,381-yard layout and position themselves among the list of legendary winners of the game’s oldest tournament.
Tip 1 – Tyrrell Hatton to win the Open Championship @ 25/1
The demands of Royal Portrush are set to be very different from those many players experience on the PGA and LIV Tours, but one player who should be delighted to test his skills on the Dunluce Links is Tyrrell Hatton.
The High Wycombe golfer has won the Dunhill Links three times, which should stand him in good stead. While a LIV outing at Valderrama last week was perhaps not the ideal preparation, his accurate play should mean he can excel on this week’s layout.
He was sixth at this venue last year and was also fifth in 2016, so while his last few Open performances have not been earth-shattering, Hatton, who was fourth at last month’s US Open, can still flourish.
After carding top-five LIV finishes in Mexico City and Dallas, Hatton should be suited by this examination – not one where length off the tee is a huge asset.
His accuracy could prove a potent weapon and, if he can keep his emotions under control, he could finally get his hands on one of the game’s most prized trophies.
Tip 2 – Shane Lowry to win the Open Championship @ 30/1
Lowry has been a bit of a nearlyman on the PGA Tour this season – showing great consistency and finishing runner-up at both the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Truist Championship – but he will almost certainly be emboldened by a return to the scene of his great triumph.
The man from County Offaly was uncatchable at Royal Portrush six years ago, when he finished six shots ahead of the field to win the Claret Jug, and there are a couple of reasons why he should be particularly hungry to repeat that success this week.
Firstly, the Irishman has failed to make the weekend in the last two majors. Secondly, he will know he could have given Troon winner Xander Schauffele a much closer run for his money had it not been for a third-round 77.
Memories of his finest hour will surely be highly motivational this week and it would not be a surprise if he rose to the occasion once again.
Tip 3 – Ryan Fox to win the Open Championship @ 80/1
New Zealander Ryan Fox is another links specialist who is worth getting behind this week if you are looking for someone a little further down the market who could make a big impression.
Like Hatton, Fox is a previous winner of the Dunhill Links Championship while his best Open showing came at Royal Portrush when he was 16th.
He is also a runner-up at the Irish Open at Ballyliffin, while his 2025 PGA Tour victories at Myrtle Beach and the Canadian Open also boost his credentials for the final major of the year.
