Truist Championship Betting Tips: Fowler can shine on familiar ground

The PGA Tour heads to North Carolina for the Truist Championship this week, returning to the scene of last year's PGA Championship.

World number one Scottie Scheffler was the winner then, but won't be teeing up at Quail Hollow this week as he takes a rest following a trio of runner-up finishes. Rory McIlroy returns to action for the first time since landing his second Masters title last month, and the Northern Irishman is a four-time winner at this venue.

The likes of Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler have also been victorious at the Charlotte venue and below are our best bets for the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow.

Fowler ready to flourish

Tip 1 – Rickie Fowler @ 33/1

Rickie Fowler was a Quail Hollow winner in 2012 and the US star could enjoy another big week in Charlotte now. Fowler, now 37, perhaps must be labelled as some sort of unfulfilled potential as his record of six PGA Tour wins doesn't quite match up to his ability level.

His driving distance isn't top drawer in the modern game, but Fowler still sends it more than 300 yards on average and he ranks 19th on the PGA Tour this season for accuracy off the tee.

He's got three top 10 finishes and shot two rounds in the 60s at the Cadillac Championship last week on the tough Doral layout as he tied for 9th spot.

He was inside the top five here in 2019 and, following a couple of years in the doldrums, Fowler is seemingly regaining some momentum this season, having pinned a top ten finish at the RBC Heritage in April.

Returning to the scene of his maiden PGA Tour win can bring another strong performance.

JT another with happy memories at Quail

Tip 2 – Justin Thomas @ 50/1

Justin Thomas landed the first of his two Major championship wins at this track in the 2017 PGA Championship and, like Fowler, can perhaps be categorised as a player that sits high on the Strokes Gained: Unfulfilled Potential table across recent seasons.

Thomas is a wonderful ball striker at his best, and his 16 PGA Tour wins are not to be sniffed at. Just one of those, the 2025 RBC Heritage, has come since he won his second PGA Championship in 2022, defeating Will Zalatoris in a playoff at Southern Hills.

Thomas' best effort this season was a top 10 at the Players' in March. He signed off at Harbour Town a fortnight ago with a closing 66 in the RBC Heritage.

Thomas was tied-second in this event 12 months ago at Philadelphia Cricket Club and he knows that Quail Hollow's infamous closing three-hole stretch – the Green Mile – holds no fears.

"If I'm coming down the stretch and trying to win the tournament, I can tell myself I've literally done this before here," he said ahead of the PGA Championship last May. Like Fowler, returning to North Carolina may benefit the 32-year-old, with flashes of his talent on display so far in 2026.

Theegala lurking with intent

Tip 3 – Sahith Theegala @ 90/1

If Sahith Theegala has a good week with the driver, he could be a contender here. The 28-year-old has posted four top-ten finishes in 2026, including at Torrey Pines in the Farmers Insurance Open and the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, both testing layouts.

He has the ability to go low and he signed off at Doral with a Sunday 64 to climb to tied-30th.

A neck problem caused Theegala to miss the PGA Championship here last season, so he's making his Quail Hollow debut. He ranks fourth-best on the PGA Tour for putts per round this season and is 11th on Strokes Gained: Around The Green and 14th in scrambling.

He needs an improved effort with the driver, but can take positives from his Sunday at Doral, where he was bogey-free in shooting an eight-under 64.
