Truist Championship Betting Tips
Many golf thoughts will be on the second Major of the year next week as the PGA Tour’s elite congregate for the Truist Championship, but the latest signature event should be highly competitive.
World number one Scottie Scheffler has decided to give it a swerve after completing his PGA Championship preparations with a nine-shot victory at the CJ Cup last week, leaving newly crowned Masters champion Rory McIlroy as a firm favourite to have the perfect preparation for Quail Hollow.
That is a venue where the Northern Irishman generally flourishes when the track plays regular host to this tournament but this week’s assignment is at the Wissahickon Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club, which is a lot tighter and features just two par fives.
So it may not suit McIlroy’s game as much as others and course management along with the ability to gain the necessary angles of approach will be key on a course that is a par 70 and measures just 7,119 yards.
Tip 1 – Jordan Spieth to win the Truist Championship @ 28/1
McIlroy became only the sixth player to win all four Majors when he claimed his first Green Jacket at Augusta last month, but it seems to have escaped most people’s attention that a seventh could be added to that group at Quail Hollow next week.
It is 10 years since Jordan Spieth grabbed the golf world by the scruff of the neck, winning both the Masters and US Open and completing the set next week seems a realistic ambition judging by his recent form.
Spieth’s last success at the RBC Heritage came three years ago, and that is a tournament where his close friend Justin Thomas ended a similar barren spell last month. The signs are there that the Texan could soon be following suit.
He finished a creditable 14th at the Masters having made the cut on the button and he finished last week’s CJ Cup in fine fashion with a 62 that was enough to earn him fourth spot.
This looks just the sort of test where his lack of length off the tee will not be a huge disadvantage and he can make the perfect preparation for his own tilt at history at Quail Hollow next week.
Tip 2 – Shane Lowry to win the Truist Championship @ 28/1
Shane Lowry’s prowess with his irons and wedges will be a vital tool this week and the consistent Irishman could come to the fore once again.
The former Open champion from County Offaly was right up there at the Masters before fading with a closing 81 but he has finished in the top 20 in 15 of his last 18 outings and has demonstrated in Major and World Golf Championship company that he is more than happy among the elite.
Seasonal highs of second at Pebble Beach and top-10 finishes at the Valspar Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational bode well and he can make a big impression again this week.
Tip 3 – Justin Rose to win the Truist Championship @ 50/1
Superb course manager Justin Rose should not be ignored in Philadelphia, three weeks after he suffered playoff heartache at Augusta for the second time.
Rose played superbly to take McIlroy to extra holes in the Masters and the draining nature of that defeat perhaps explains a disappointing 42nd at the RBC Heritage last time out.
But his closing 66 in the first Major of the year should give the 2013 US Open champion huge encouragement. He should certainly not be ignored as he has already performed well in signature events this year, posting a third at Pebble Beach and an eighth at the Arnold Palmer.
