US Open Golf Betting Tips

A field of 156 will descend upon Oakmont Country Club this week for the 125th US Open in what promises to be an enthralling four days of action at the famous Pennsylvania venue.

Hosting this event for a record 10th time, Oakmont, a par-70 measuring 7,372 yards, features thick rough, treacherous bunkers and big, undulating greens that have been renovated to ensure they are more like tabletops now as opposed to having build-up along the edges.

World number one and US PGA champion Scottie Scheffler is the 11/4 favourite to claim the spoils, while defending champion Bryson DeChambeau is 7/1 and 2021 winner Jon Rahm is priced at 12/1.

Rory McIlroy, who has been struggling in his last couple of starts with a new driver after his old one was determined to be non-conforming, is available at 12/1 to land his sixth major, ahead of 22/1 chances Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Aberg.

TIP 1 - SEPP STRAKA EACH WAY @ 33/1

Austrian Sepp Straka has won twice on the PGA Tour this season, landing the American Express and the Truist Championship, and his consistent form suggests a maiden major could be forthcoming this week.

The 32-year-old was third at the Memorial on his last outing and he will be nicely refreshed for this trip to Pennsylvania, having swerved last week's Canadian Open to focus fully on the US Open.

A strong tee-to-green game will be crucial this week and Straka ranks fourth in strokes gained in that category, while he is unrivalled in greens in regulation, third in SG approach and 11th in driving accuracy.

Armed with a hot flat-stick that has him eighth in putting average, all areas of Straka's game look in fine fettle and he will fancy his chances of success.

TIP 2 - SHANE LOWRY EACH WAY @ 28/1

With two runner-up finishes this season, Shane Lowry has been on the cusp of picking up a victory and there looks to be every chance that could happen at Oakmont, where he was tied-second in the 2016 US Open.

The 2019 Open champion missed the cut at the PGA Championship last month but he has got back into the swing of things quickly, finishing tied 23rd at the Memorial and then in a share of 13th at the Canadian Open.

Lowry is second in strokes gained for both tee-to-green and approach, evidence of how strong his long game has been, and there are no worries about his razor-sharp short game skills.

TIP 3 - RUSSELL HENLEY EACH WAY @ 60/1

Russell Henley recorded his best US Open finish in last year's event when finishing tied-seventh and his strong form this season suggest he could better that performance at Oakmont.

The 36-year-old American won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, his fifth PGA Tour title, and he has put in some solid showings since with a share of eighth at the RBC Heritage and a top-five finish at the Memorial.

Sitting 10th in greens in regulation, Henley's approach has been on point, further evidenced by his ranking of 16th in strokes gained for that category, while his position of 17th in SG tee-to-green highlights his strong long game.

Henley’s putter has also been behaving, as he ranks 28th in putting average, and it would be no surprise to see him right in the mix on Sunday.
