Doncaster St Leger Festival Day 3 Tips

Day three of Doncaster's St Leger Festival comes up on Saturday, with the final British Classic of the year taking centre stage on Town Moor.

The St Leger is due off at 15:40 and spearheads a cracking afternoon's action at Doncaster, with the Champagne Stakes, the Park Stakes and the Portland Handicap also on the agenda.

Our racing expert has selections for the seven thoroughbred races on the card.

13:15 - PJ Towey Construction Handicap

GALERON has been a bit in and out in recent months, but he ran well here in the Lincoln back in March and is rated 8lb lower now. His most recent effort over 7f at Sandown on soft ground was better and he could go well with Colin Keane doing the steering.

Selection: Galeron

13:50 - Champagne Stakes

The unbeaten Gewan sets the standard for Andrew Balding after last month's Acomb win at York and PJ McDonald keeps the ride. Oisin Murphy is on OXAGON for the Gosden team. The Frankel colt looked a bit special when scoring in wide-margin fashion from a subsequent winner on his second run at Sandown and merits this rise in class.

Selection: Oxagon

14:25 - Portland (Heritage Handicap)

ROSARIO was placed in the Flying Childers as a 2YO here and scored at Goodwood in May over the minimum trip off a mark of 94. He hasn't run badly in some good races since and returns here rated 3lb lower than that winning mark. Roger Teal's charge won't mind softening ground and looks to hold an each-way chance.

Selection: Rosario

15:00 - Park Stakes

Shadow Of Light is the class act and has run with credit in a trio of Group 1 races this season. He's got leading claims eased in grade. EAST HAMPTON offers some value as a place alternative, in particular if David Marnane's Cracksman gelding can get back to the level of form shown at the Curragh on his penultimate start.

Selection: East Hampton

15:40 - St Leger Stakes

Aidan O'Brien's bid for a ninth St Leger is strong and any of SCANDINAVIA, Lambourn or Stay True could be the answer. The strong suit for Tom Marquand's partner is going to be stamina and that may well win the day. Rahiebb is well matched with the leading contenders on his best form and could be overpriced.

Selection: Scandinavia

16:15 - British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes

DEL MARO would have gleaned lots of experience from his debut second at Newmarket over this trip last month in good novice company. The Camelot colt didn't get an ideal passage and, if coming on for that run, he can provide Billy Loughnane with a winner in the Godolphin colours.

Selection: Del Maro

16:50 - Mastiff Manor Handicap

Consistency has been a real trait for SPORTINGSILVERMINE of late. The James Owen-trained four-year-old has been running well over further and has inched up the ratings as a result. He won twice in the spring after arriving from Ireland and could yet defy his current mark.

Selection: Sportingsilvermine
