Glorious Goodwood Festival Day 5 Betting Tips

Saturday is the final day of this year’s Glorious Goodwood Festival and there are more Group races and competitive handicaps to get stuck into.

The Stewards’ Cup is the big race of the day, a Heritage Handicap over six furlongs and Get It will be bidding to repeat his 2024 success.

We have previewed all seven races on the card and found a last-time-out winner who looks capable of going in again.

13:20 – Goodwood - Glorious Stakes

Last year’s winner, Al Aasy, looks capable of gaining back-to-back victories in Saturday’s opener.

He was impressive when achieving last year’s success in cosy style and given that he’s versatile with regards to conditions with the ground likely to be drying out, he looks a solid choice as he bids for a remarkable eighth Group 3 success.

Selection: Al Aasy

13:55 – Goodwood - Summer Handicap

Ralph Beckett has been among the winners already this week and has a fascinating contender for the staying handicap in Artistic Star.

The Jeff Smith-owned five-year-old was only narrowly denied on fast ground at Newbury last time out and given he’s a son of Galileo who has won on soft ground, he may appreciate a return to a slower surface.

Selection: Artistic Star

14:30 – Goodwood - Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes

Goodie Two Shoes is on a roll and she looks capable of taking this step up in class in her stride after a Group 3 win at Fairyhouse when last seen. That was her third pattern success in a row in Ireland and this doesn’t look like the deepest Group 2 in the staying division.

This mare is versatile with regards to conditions and her yard are on the board already this week, so she ought to go well with William Buick in the saddle, as he rides this track particularly well.

Selection: Goodie Two Shoes

15:05 – Goodwood - Stewards' Cup

This looks like another cracking renewal of the Stewards’ Cup and it has been a tough race for punters to find the winner of with seven of the last eight going off at double-figure odds including 40-1 winner Get It last season.

He’s back for another crack but there’s a suspicion the ground has gone against him after Thursday’s deluge. One that should be suited by the conditions is Strike Red for Richard Fahey, who is bidding for a first win in the race.

He relishes rain-softened conditions, as his two career-best performances in competitive handicaps at the Curragh and York suggest, and he now finds himself back on his last winning mark, so expect him to go close.

Selection: Strike Red

15:45 – Goodwood - Whispering Angel Handicap

It often pays to be on the front end over this course and distance and The Waco Kid looks capable of going well at a price. He is almost guaranteed to make the running from stall seven.

He was a Group 3 winner last term and while he has struggled at pattern level this year, he could bounce back now he drops down in class to a handicap.

Selection: The Waco Kid

16:20 – Goodwood - British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes

After a massive run on his debut at the Curragh behind a well-fancied stablemate, Isaac Newton is expected to be hard to beat with Ryan Moore in the saddle.

The jockey who has been banging in the winners all week and his mount already sets the standard on form. With a sizeable amount of improvement likely from that Curragh debut, he could be hard to beat with a handy low draw in stall four.

Selection: Isaac Newton

16:55 – Goodwood - Handicap

It’s a slight surprise that Treasure Time isn’t the outright favourite for this contest given the week that his trainer William Haggas has enjoyed.

He shaped like he was in need of his reappearance at Sandown but still ran respectably and some of his form from last season, particularly his success in a competitive handicap at the Ebor meeting, is some of the strongest on offer.

He has been brought along slowly, so there should be more to come from this unexposed type.

Selection: Treasure Time
