Glorious Goodwood Festival Day 4 Betting Tips

The penultimate day of the Glorious Goodwood meeting takes place on Friday afternoon with a seven-race card.

The feature race is the King George Qatar Stakes where Australian raider, Asfoora, will be bidding to go one better than last year.

We have selections and analysis for all seven races including a couple of value picks.

13:20 – Goodwood - Goodwood Handicap

The Goodwood Handicap for the stayers always makes for interesting viewing with a unique flag start and this one can go the way of last year’s fourth, Kyle Of Lochalsh.

Hughie Morrison’s charge was given a bit too much to do in last year’s running before then managing to finish third in Listed company in France in the following start.

His return at Southwell in April this year was low-key but expect him to come on for that at Goodwood. He should go well back on last year’s mark with rain in the forecast before Friday.

Selection: Kyle Of Lochalsh

13:55 – Goodwood - Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes

Opera Ballo looks like one of the more solid favourites this week and he has a big chance at the weights stepping up to Group 3 company for the first time.

The Godolphin-owned representative made it four wins from five starts when gaining a second Listed success at Newmarket at the July meeting and there could be even more to come if he settles better in the early stages of the contest.

Selection: Opera Ballo

14:30 – Goodwood - Golden Mile

This is traditionally one of the most competitive handicaps of the week but Skukuza could take some stopping, given that he’s 8lb “well in” at the weights.

He only has to carry a 3lb penalty for his Curragh success last time out when showing his versatility by making all of the running and he’s another one that won’t mind any rain that comes before Friday’s racing.

Selection: Skukuza

15:05 – Goodwood - King George Qatar Stakes

Asfoora was only narrowly denied in this last year but there’s a suspicion that soft ground won’t play to her strengths and she may be a favourite worth taking on.

Preference is for Kerdos, who did well to finish fifth in a Royal Ascot Group 1 before a below-par fifth at Sandown when possibly finding the race coming too soon.

He was a model of consistency last term and the yard excel in the sprinting division.

Selection: Kerdos

15:45 – Goodwood - Regent Seven Seas Cruises Bentinck Conditions Stakes

Liberty Lane looks capable of giving weight to all of his rivals in this conditions contest.

The ground was probably on the quick side for him at Royal Ascot last time out but he was a course winner at Listed level on his penultimate start and has found a good opportunity here.

Selection: Liberty Lane

16:20 – Goodwood - Hawes & Curtis Nursery Handicap

This nursery may be a bit more competitive than the betting suggests and a chance is taken on Try Storm Cat.

Charlie Johnston’s runner has been improving with every run in his short career so far, getting off the mark at Pontefract last time out, and he may have been let in lightly by the handicapper with a mark of 81 to work with.

Selection: Try Storm Cat

16:55 – Goodwood - Handicap

Munsif has a cracking chance to send favourite backers home happy in the finale on Friday’s card.

He lost his unbeaten record at York last time out but the winner has gone in again since, giving the form a really solid look, and the handicapper has leniently left him on the same mark for that three-quarter length defeat.

Selection: Munsif
