Glorious Goodwood Festival Day 2 Betting Tips
After a cracking day of action on Tuesday, Goodwood is back for day 2 of the Glorious Goodwood Festival.
There's more Group 1 action on Wednesday afternoon, and it's the turn of the milers in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes, where Field Of Gold is the headline act.
We have selections and analysis for all seven races on Wednesday, including a couple of value picks at rewarding odds.
13:20 – Goodwood - Handicap
The competitive handicaps continue on Wednesday and the action kicks off with a 1m4f event for the three-year-olds.
One that may have been a bit underestimated in the market is Mdawi, who arrives in great form, having won two of his last three starts and he looks like a typical steady "Johnston improver". The yard also has a good record in this, so expect him to make a bold bid from the front.
Selection: Mdawi
13:55 – Goodwood - Oak Tree Stakes
A case can be made for a few of these fillies and mares, with a chance taken on Fair Angellica, who caught the eye at Newbury last time out.
She gave the impression that she was crying out for a step back up in distance that day and she doesn't have much to find on ratings with those at the top of the market.
Selection: Fair Angellica
14:30 – Goodwood - Molecomb Stakes
Lady Iman has been all the rage in the market, but Military Code could be the value play in the race. He was only narrowly denied by Staya last time out and that rival boosted the form with a narrow miss in a Group 3 at Ascot last week.
A high draw is often an advantage over this course and distance and he looks capable of giving Godolphin another Glorious Goodwood winner.
Selection: Military Code
15:05 – Goodwood - Sussex Stakes
There are plenty of favourites worth opposing at Goodwood this week, but Field Of Gold does not look like one of them.
His performance at Royal Ascot was nothing short of outstanding when following up his Irish 2,000 Guineas success and provided he handles the unique demands of this course and distance, expect him to be hard to beat.
Selection: Field Of Gold
15:45 – Goodwood - EBF Fillies' Handicap
This looks like a good opportunity for Wisper to make amends for an unlucky defeat in this race last season.
She was not seen to best effect in last year's renewal when her jockey elected to go for a daring run up the inside rail rather than a clear passage down the outside and she showed she was back in form with a recent Windsor success.
She had excuses on the all-weather last time when meeting trouble in running and ought to go well back on turf.
Selection: Wisper
16:20 – Goodwood - EBF Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes
Zelaina looks short enough in the betting and one that might be worth chancing is Revival Power, a half-sister to the yard's top sprinter, Winter Power.
She was impressive on debut at Thirsk and set unsustainable fractions at Royal Ascot subsequently. She looks capable of bouncing back, dropping down in class.
Selection: Revival Power
16:55 – Goodwood - Handicap
The consistent Billyjoh looks worth chancing in the finale at an each-way sort of price. He didn't get the breaks at Ascot last week, but ran a cracker in defeat at Newmarket previously and went mightily close in this race last year off a 2lb higher handicap mark.
Selection: Billyjoh
