Haydock Betting Tips
It’s another big Saturday at Haydock and there are eight races at the Lancashire venue, so there is no shortage of action for punters to get stuck into.
The feature race is the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (15:00) and that is supplemented by the Dick Hern Stakes (16:45), which is a Listed race for fillies and mares.
This is a bumper card at Haydock on Saturday and we have selected our best bets in all eight races at the track.
14:25 - Handicap (1m)
A wide-open handicap and the most interesting runner is OLD COCK, who posted an abysmal run at Pontefract last time but is surely better than that. The Ed Bethell-trained gelding was beaten 45 lengths into last that day, but is better judged on his previous back-to-back victories at Ayr and this course. He returns to the scene of his last success off a mark just 6lb higher than when recording that win and can pick up where he left off for a stable who appear to target their horses at this track.
Selection: Old Cock
15:00 - Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (Group 3, 1m2½f)
This is the feature race of the day and it can go to the 2022 winner ANMAAT. He recorded one of his best performances when landing the race two years ago and went on to win the Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp last season, proving he is a top-level performer. He escapes a penalty for that success back in Group 3 company as it came so long ago, but the 439-day absence shouldn’t be a concern. Anmaat has form figures reading 1112 after breaks of at least 50 days, so is likely to be at his best on his return this time.
Selection: Anmaat
15:35 - Handicap (1m2½f)
Charlie Hills can strike in this handicap with LAKE TEO. The lightly raced daughter of Teofilo made steady progress in maidens and novice races and achieved her best finishing position when second on her latest outing in a Windsor novice 12 days ago. She looks ready to make her presence felt again now that she is switched to handicaps and Jim Crowley is a positive jockey booking. He has a 16% strike-rate for the Hills stable in the last five seasons. Selection: Lake Teo
16:10 - Jack Berry House Handicap (1m)
Lightly raced topweights in handicaps are often worth a second look, and REMOJI fits the bill here. The Roger Varian-trained filly has run only three times and looked smart when landing a maiden at Beverley in June. She was turned over at odds on for a novice at Chelmsford next time, but still recorded a career-best effort in third and probably remains an improver. There should be more to come from her now that she returns to turf and Varian has booked Jack Mitchell for one of just three rides on the day.
Selection: Remoji
16:45 - Dick Hern Stakes (Listed, 1m)
This is the chief supporting race on the card and a classy field has been assembled. It’s hard to get away from the likely favourite INDELIBLE, who is out of the top-class racemare Midday and has shown a high level of form herself. The daughter of Shamardal was fourth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot in June and improved again when second in Listed company at Sandown in July. She is on a rapid upward curve and remains open to plenty of further improvement. It’s a matter of time before she moves into Group company, so she should be capable of landing this Listed race en route.
Selection: Indelible
17:20 - Handicap (Division one) (7f)
The first division of two wide-open handicaps can go to OLIGOPOLY. The Tim Easterby-trained topweight has run only six times and ran his best race of the season when second in a 7f handicap at Doncaster last week. He has gone up only 2lb for that effort and remains open to plenty of further improvement for a stable that has lots of winners at Haydock. He seems to handle any ground and has more to offer.
Selection: Oligopoly
17:50 - Handicap (Division two) (7f)
The second division doesn’t look much easier than the first but the one to be on could be TRIGGERMAN. The lightly raced Ribchester gelding has made steady progress since going into handicaps and was beaten only a neck into second in a 7f handicap at Doncaster 16 days ago. He has gone up only 1lb in the weights and is capable of taking another step forward on just his eighth outing for the Julie Camacho team, who have hit form recently.
Selection: Triggerman
18:25 - Handicap (7f)
This is another open race and MIRSKY looks capable of taking another step forward. The five-year-old is in good form and ran well when 12th of 29 in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot last time. That was a much more competitive heat than this and he had also twice put in solid efforts on his previous two starts, including when fifth in the Thirsk Hunt Cup in May. He is running off a 4lb lower mark here and looks capable of making his presence felt again.
Selection: Mirsky
