Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Glorious Goodwood Day 5 Tips
SATURDAY RACING TIPS
Goodwood 1.20 – Glorious Stakes
I like the chances of Candleford (5/1) in the Glorious Stakes.
William Haggas’ horses have really hit form and he’s also got Al Aasy (6/4 fav) in here.
I just thought there might not be enough pace in this race to fully see the best of Al Aasy and that leads me to Candleford.
He won nicely at Beverley in a Listed race last time which was his second start after a long break and I expect him to take another step forward here.
He showed the ability is still there and he’s run well at Goodwood before too.
Megan’s Tip: Candleford WIN
Goodwood 1.55 – Summer Handicap
Another tricky handicap at Goodwood and I’m going to go with Master Builder (8/1) on this occasion.
He’s a horse I’ve followed with interest for quite some time now and the fact the rain has come has only increased my confidence about his chances here.
Master Builder is only six pounds higher than an impressive win at Haydock last season and the form of his fourth to French Master at this track last time reads well too.
Megan’s Tip: Master Builder WIN
Goodwood 2.30 – Lillie Langtry Stakes
I think Waardah (13/2) has a massive chance in this.
She looked as if the step up 10 furlongs at Goodwood last time was the key to her improvement and she clearly relishes soft ground.
I don’t see any reason why the extra distance won’t be to her liking and I thought she was a pretty big price in what looks a very open Lillie Langtry.
Getting weight from her elders is also a plus and I’m quite sweet on her chances.
Megan’s Tip: Waardah WIN
Goodwood 3.05 – Stewards’ Cup
I’m going with one at a big price in the Stewards’ Cup in the form of Vadream (28/1).
She’s drawn in five but loves soft ground and is a totally different proposition when the mud is flying.
She’s down to a mark of 96 which is a career-low, and with conditions finally in her favour, she could easily outrun her odds.
The other one I like is Purosangue (17/2), who has William Buick on board.
He’s another horse who saves his best for slower ground and, while he didn’t fire in this race 12 months ago, he’s run well at Goodwood previously including a second in the Molecomb as a two-year-old.
Of those drawn higher, Strike Red (14/1) could go well.
He’s been well-backed which doesn’t surprise me as Richard Fahey does really well in these sprint handicaps.
His charge likes cut in the ground and he could go well from the other side.
Megan’s Tip: Purosangue WIN; Vadream EW; Strike Red EW
