Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Sandown & Newmarket Tips

SATURDAY RACING TIPS

Sandown 1.50 – The Sprint Stakes

Words Of Truth (3/1) won impressively over course and distance last time, with plenty in hand I thought.

This one looks like an open race and Billy Loughnane takes over from Oisin Murphy in the saddle.

Oisin is on Asfoora (2/1 fav) but I just think Words Of Truth really suited the course and distance last time and could well back that up here.

Megan’s Tip: Words Of Truth WIN

Sandown 2.25 – Class 2 Handicap

I’m going with Beagle Bay (11/2) here, who also won over course and distance last time… and I tipped him up that day!

I think he’s a real improver; he’s won his last three. It’s hard to win four on the bounce but he is going places. I don’t think he’ll be in handicaps for too long and he does everything right.

He’s a pretty straightforward horse so you could put him anywhere in the race – as I say, he is going the right way.

Megan’s Tip: Beagle Bay WIN

Newmarket 3.15 – Old Newton Cup

Klassleader (11/8 fav) looks like he’ll take all the beating here.

He’s a lightly raced colt who was very impressive in the Jorvik at York back in May.

Klassleader hasn’t run since but I imagine this race has been a bit of a target en route back for the Ebor.

It’s interesting that Tom Marquand has chosen to go to Newmarket having likely had some other options at Sandown – I think that’s of note too.

This is always a competitive handicap, though it’s strange it’s at Newmarket rather than its usual location of Haydock.

But I think Klassleader simply looks to be an improving type.

Megan’s Tip: Klassleader WIN

Sandown 3.35 – The Eclipse

I really love Constitution River (4/5 fav) but I’m actually going with Gethin (4/1) here.

He served it up to Ombudsman last time. I know he was getting weight and Ombudsman was on return, but how impressive was he at the Royal Meeting?

James Doyle will know him a bit better, he’s a strong travelling type and pretty tough.

Gethin will have learned a lot from a proper battle against Ombudsman as well – he stays well, is improving and I reckon James will get him rolling nice and early.

Megan’s Tip: Gethin WIN
