Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Sandown & Haydock Tips
SATURDAY RACING TIPS
Sandown 1.50 – Coral Charge
I’m going with Kerdos (7/2) here.
He ran really well at Ascot last time and this stiff five furlongs really suits him.
I was really impressed with the run at Ascot under Saturday’s jockey Christophe Soumillon and this looks a race that should set up nicely for him.
He’s got a big chance of getting his head back in front.
Megan’s Tip: Kerdos EW
Sandown 2.25 – Coral Challenge
Greek Order (3/1) looks the play in this.
He ran really well on his stable debut and first run back in the UK for a while when fourth in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot.
Ryan Moore is on board which is a massive bonus and the yard should have learnt plenty from the massive run at Ascot.
He’s a horse I’ve always liked and I fancy him quite strongly.
By the way, BetMGM are paying four places each-way on this race.
Megan’s Tip: Greek Order WIN
Haydock 2.40 – Lancashire Oaks
I’m really excited to see Estrange (1/4 fav) back on the track.
She won well at Haydock last time on good ground and while I think she’s a filly that would prefer a bit of cut, she handled the fast surface well enough.
She’s lightly raced and is a quite lightly-framed filly so connections target her races carefully – but she’s clearly got loads of ability. She was ridden with a lot of confidence last time and I expect her to be too classy for her rivals.
Megan’s Tip: Estrange WIN
Sandown 3.00 – Coral Distaff
It could be a good day for Ryan Moore as I fancy Cajoje (5/1) in this contest.
She was second in the Sandringham under Saffie Osborne and probably threw away her chance by drifting over the track when she came under pressure.
She’s learning all the time, though, and she’ll certainly improve from that experience.
Ryan Moore has to be a positive jockey booking and I don’t think the penny has dropped with her yet. When it does, I expect we’ll see quite a smart filly.
Megan’s Tip: Cajole WIN
Haydock 3.15 – Old Newton Cup
I like the look of My Dream World (8/1) in the Old Newton Cup at what looks a pretty nice each-way price.
He effectively won the lady amateur race at York last time but was disqualified because his jockey went over the whip allowance. He didn’t have an easy time of things that day and did very well to win all things considered.
His trainer, Ben Brookhouse, has always said his horse promises plenty but has been a bit fragile so it’s not surprising that he’s quite lightly-raced.
Given that, he’s entitled to have more improvement in him and that’s what you need in these big handicaps.
Megan’s Tip: My Dream World EW
Sandown 3.35 – Coral Eclipse
This looks pretty straightforward to me.
Ombudsman (Evs fav) looks a very solid favourite and I expect him to take all the beating.
He ran a belter on his return at Sandown behind the talented Almaqam and then it was hard to not be impressed by what he did in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot last time.
He was stopped a couple of times up the run-in but when he got out, the turn of foot he showed was pretty extraordinary.
Quick round looks essential to him and while he has to give weight away to some classy three-year-olds, if he can repeat the performance from Ascot, I don’t see them getting near him.
Megan’s Tip: Ombudsman WIN
