Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: York Dante Festival Day 1 Tips
WEDNESDAY RACING TIPS
York 2.10 – Jorvik Handicap
I like the look of Almosh'her (13/2) on his first start for Karl Burke.
He’s run well on the all-weather for Charlie Fellowes and could be on a good mark on his first start on turf.
There’s likely more improvement in him and, if there’s market support, that could be telling that he’s a bit of a handicap plot.
Megan’s Tip: Almosh'her WIN
York 2.42 – Six-furlong handicap
Change Sings (7/1) is my fancy in this six-furlong sprint handicap.
This horse has plenty of speed and a sharp six furlongs could just suit. There’s speed in around his stall in 16 – if he can get the splits, he could be finishing fastest of this bunch.
He’s got plenty of ability and showed that by going up through the grades last year. He might just be one to keep an eye on this campaign.
His two runs this season have been encouraging – he looks ready to win now.
Megan’s Tip: Change Sings WIN
York 3.13 – Duke Of York Stakes
This is wide open.
It looks a great renewal and I wonder if this might be the time to catch Elite Status (10/3).
He won impressively first time out last season at Newbury and looks a pretty straightforward type.
I’d be a little worried that Inisherin (2/1 fav) might be a bit fresh on his seasonal reappearance and will need this, whereas Elite Status will be fully wound up.
That could just prove the difference between them.
Megan’s Tip: Elite Status WIN
York 3.45 – Musidora Stakes
I like Smoken (11/4) in this.
She has got to cope with the new ground conditions having won nicely on bad ground last season.
Her pedigree suggests she’ll improve with age and for the step up in trip and Ralph Beckett’s horses have begun to hit form.
He could have a nice filly on his hands with Smoken and I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up being rated a fair amount higher come the end of the campaign.
Megan’s Tip: Smoken WIN
York 4.18 – Six-furlong handicap
Red Sand (6/1) can take this out.
He’s taken a step forward with each start mentally and I think switching back to turf will really help him too.
His reappearance run at Wolverhampton should have brought him on plenty and I expect there’s plenty more improvement to come off a mark of 90.
Megan’s Tip: Red Sand WIN
