Royal Ascot Day 1 Betting Tips

The first day of Royal Ascot is one of the most prestigious days in British Flat racing and there’s a cracking card in store on Tuesday with seven races to look forward to.

There are no fewer than three Group 1 races on day 1, among them a cracking renewal of the Queen Anne to kick off proceedings.

We bring you selections and analysis for all seven races on the card, including a couple of value picks in the handicaps.

14:30 – Ascot - Queen Anne Stakes

ROSALLION left the impression that he would strip fitter for his reappearance outing in the Lockinge last month, which is understandable after a year off the track, and he looks capable of getting back to winning ways in the opening contest of the meeting.

This stiffer track will play to his strengths and he can enhance his Ascot record to three wins from three starts, which also includes a St James’s Palace success in a deep contest at last year’s meeting.

Selection: Rosallion @ 5/2

15:05 – Ascot - Coventry Stakes

There was plenty to like about WARSAW’S debut at Navan on June 7 and he looks capable of going in again with plenty in his favour here.

His trainer Aidan O’Brien has won five renewals since 2011 and this Wootton Bassett colt gave the impression on his debut run that he would relish a step up to a stiff six furlongs. With progress assured, there’s an argument to say he should be favourite for this.

Selection: Warsaw @ 15/2

15:40 – Ascot - King Charles III Stakes

This could hardly be more competitive for a Group 1 contest with a chance taken on BELIEVING after her breakthrough Group 1 success out at Meydan over the winter.

She was a model of consistency last season with a host of placed Group 1 efforts and she’s at her best when she gets a strong pace to aim at, which looks a likely scenario here. Fast ground will suit, she’s in foal (often a source of improvement), and she ought to run well with Ryan Moore taking over.

Selection: Believing @ 9/2

16:20 – Ascot - St James's Palace Stakes

FIELD OF GOLD could take some stopping after his Irish 2,000 Guineas success. He was unlucky not to win the Newmarket equivalent on his penultimate start when not seen to best effect and he has the measure of these rivals, who all need to improve to match what this colt achieved at the Curragh.

Selection: Field Of Gold @ 4/5

17:00 – Ascot - Ascot Stakes

Willie Mullins has a particularly strong hand in this year’s renewal and REACHING HIGH looks like the one to be on.

He shaped with plenty of encouragement on his yard debut at Leopardstown over an insufficient 1m4f and expect him to improve for a step up in trip given that his dam was a course and distance Gold Cup winner.

Selection: Reaching High @ 10/3

17:35 – Ascot - Wolferton Stakes

One of the more competitive races on day 1, with a chance taken on HAATEM, who has been shaping like he could improve for this new trip.

He’s not been at his best so far this season but having placed in both last year’s 2,000 Guineas either side of the Irish Sea, he looks like the class act in this contest.

Selection: Haatem @ 6/1

18:10 – Ascot - Copper Horse Stakes

It could be a big day for Haatem’s connections, Wathnan Racing, who also have FRENCH MASTER in Tuesday’s finale. He won in better style than the winning margin suggested at Goodwood last time out and gives the impression that he will improve for first-time headgear in the form of blinkers.

Selection: French Master @ 9/4
