Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Royal Ascot Day 5 Tips
SATURDAY RACING TIPS
Ascot 2.30 – Chesham Stakes
Treanmor (11/10 fav) was very impressive at Newmarket and much was expected given the amount of money he cost as a yearling.
He won with any amount in hand last time and stepped up to seven furlongs, hopefully he can give Charlie Appleby his first winner of the week.
Megan’s Tip: Treanmor EW
Ascot 3.05 – Hardwicke Stakes
It could be a quickfire double for Appleby and William Buick as Rebel’s Romance (15/8 fav) is my selection in the Hardwicke.
He’s been an international star and I think the step back in trip to 1m4f will really suit him.
He looks the one to beat, but Ghostwriter (5/1) looks a bet to nothing each-way. Amo Racing spent a lot of money on him earlier this week and he’s gone very well in some top-class races previously.
He’ll love the quick ground and I can see him leaving the run in Ireland behind.
Megan’s Tip: Rebel’s Romance WIN; Ghostwriter EW
Ascot 3.40 – Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes
It’s Inisherin (3/1 fav) for me in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
He was very tough at York considering he would have needed the run and he’s entitled to step forward plenty from that. He’s a really talented sprinter who Kevin Ryan has always thought the world of and the fact he comes into this fresh is a real positive.
You have to give a lot of respect to the Japanese challenger Satono Reve (10/3), but my concern with him is the time of year. Japanese horses tend to travel better over the winter period so that might just catch him out.
His run behind Ka Ying Rising in Hong Kong is clearly incredibly strong form and the third in that race has won a Group Three since, so he has to be respected.
Megan’s Tip: Inisherin WIN
Ascot 4.20 – Jersey Stakes
The drop back to seven furlongs should really suit Comanche Brave (11/4 fav). He’s run very well twice this season and the form has worked out nicely.
He got a bit pushed around in the Irish Guineas but he ran pretty well considering, and this looks a nice opportunity back down in grade and trip to get on the scoresheet.
Megan’s Tip: Comanche Brave WIN
Ascot 5.00 – Wokingham Stakes
Six places each-way for punters here and this looks very tricky!
I’ve gone with Jarraaf (9/2), who I thought would take a big step forward from his run in a Listed race at Salisbury. He’s run well at Ascot previously and a draw in 12 gives his jockey options.
The race should set up nicely for him and I’m hopeful of a big run.
Each-way, we’ll go with Cover Up (33/1), who’s quirky but talented on his day. He’s got a tongue-tie on for the first time and the ground won’t be a problem.
The stiff six should suit and a strong pace might just see him run on into a place at a nice price.
Megan’s Tip: Jarraaf WIN, Cover Up EW
Ascot 5.35 – Golden Gates Handicap
I like the look of Seraph Gabriel (2/1 fav) in the Golden Gates.
He impressed me when I saw him at Sandown on his seasonal debut where he got a bit tired up the hill. The form of that run has worked out quite well with the winner, Fifth Column, running well in the Britannia earlier in the week.
The step up to 1m2f should bring out a bit more improvement and while there are plenty in here you could make a case for, he looks to have a favourite’s chance.
Megan’s Tip: Seraph Gabriel WIN
Ascot 6.10 – Queen Alexandra Stakes
It does look like Sober (4/6 fav) will be hard to beat for Willie Mullins and Ryan Moore in the finale of this year’s Royal Ascot.
He was a talented stayer when trained in France by Andre Fabre and he won on stable debut over hurdles in May.
Moore was booked at the five-day stage which is probably a sign how much they fancy him, and despite this being the quickest ground he’ll have run on, he looks the class horse in the race and should have too much for his rivals.
Megan’s Tip: Sober WIN
