Southwell Racing Tips: Sunday April 6th

Aintree Grand National weekend draws to a close but we still have a lovely all-weather card at Southwell to look forward to on Sunday.

On the day, we have a couple of very good Class 2 contests to dig into in the form of a 1m4f novice (15:45) and a 6f handicap (16:55).

There are seven races in all at Southwell on Sunday and we have selected our best bets.

15:45 - BetMGM: It's Showtime EBF Novice Stakes (1m4f)

A field of six are set to go to post for a fascinating opening contest and it's Charlie Appleby's TREMORGIO who should come out on top. The son of Dubawi is unbeaten in two starts to date, beating a Derby entrant on debut at Newmarket in October and landing the odds over course and distance last time. He can carry a penalty to victory.

16:20 - BetUK Bet Club Handicap (5f)

Hollie Doyle takes the ride on ALMATY STAR, who was narrowly denied over course and distance off 82 in January, before going one better at Wolverhampton next time off 83. He was beaten a nose at that venue when last seen off 86 and keeps on improving.

16:55 - Free Bet With BetUK Handicap (6f)

William Haggas has won the Lincoln and a Group 1 in Australia in the last week or so and WILTSHIRE can continue the yard's fine form. The gelding won a 6f Newcastle handicap last summer and rounded the year off with a third in Listed company there. He's got a bit of a chance back in a handicap.

17:30 - Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Handicap (1m4f)

WAY OF STARS was runner-up over 1m at Goodwood on his debut last year but regressed in two runs out after that. He has been gelded since and has to be of interest on his handicap debut up in trip with Oisin Murphy aboard.

18:00 - Weekly Free Bets With BetMGM Extra Maiden Fillies' Stakes (7f)

One of a pair of newcomers in the lineup, BLUE BOLT has a lovely pedigree and could land this. The Blue Point filly cost €400,000 and is a half-sister to the classy Sea Theme. She could be an exciting prospect.

18:30 - Best Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Fillies' Handicap (1m)

The consistent ENOLA GREY can gain a second course and distance win. The mare was behind the reopposing Bellarchi last time, but was very slowly away and suffered as a consequence. She's back down to a winnable mark.

19:00 - BetMGM: It's Showtime Handicap (1m)

DIVIDEND came back from a 156-day break to win over this course and distance in style off 83 in February. The son of Kodiac is expected to come on for the run and a 5lb rise might not prevent the follow-up, with leading AW rider Rossa Ryan on again.
