Madrid Open Tennis Betting Tips

Jannik Sinner regained world number one status for the first time since November after victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo Masters final earlier this month and he is bidding to become the first player to land five consecutive Masters 1000 titles in Madrid.

Sinner has now won seven of the nine Masters 1000 titles and the only ones missing are on the clay in Rome and Madrid, where two-time winner Alcaraz is a notable absentee.

A wrist injury has denied Alcaraz the opportunity to perform in front of home support and his withdrawal could see Sinner take advantage, as he competes in the Spanish capital for only the second time in the last four seasons.

It could be tough to stop the Italian top seed and, with Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz other headline acts to miss out, his toughest test is likely to stem from Germany’s Alexander Zverev.

Casper Ruud defeated Jack Draper in last season’s final and returns hoping to defend his crown, while Daniil Medvedev, Lorenzo Musetti, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Ben Shelton are others bidding to make their presence felt.

Zverev setting his sights on Sinner

Tip 1 – Alexander Zverev outright winner each-way @ 7/1

Sinner has won three straight titles at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo and could be a hard man to dethrone on a 17-match winning streak with no Alcaraz present.

The Italian has dropped only one set during that purple patch and may only be pushed by Andrey Rublev, Arthur Fils, Ben Shelton or Joao Fonseca before the final.

He is an odds-on shot for a reason and should be expected to make yet another Masters 1000 title decider, so attacking the bottom half of the draw should be the approach to take.

Second seed Zverev is the obvious starting point and he has been a model of consistency without winning this season, making the semi-final of the Australian Open and each of the opening three Masters 1000 events.

Zverev was unfortunate to bump into Sinner in the semis at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo but he can’t meet the impressive Italian until the final this time around.

The German was a semi-finalist at the BMW Open on home soil in Munich last week, too, and he should soon be rewarded for holding his form so well.

Clay-loving Cerundolo has conditions to suit

Tip 2 – Francisco Cerundolo each-way @ 66/1

If Zverev fails to deliver in the bottom half of the draw then Francisco Cerundolo could be the player to spring a surprise with conditions to suit.

Cerundolo was a semi-finalist in Madrid last year, having been a quarter-finalist in 2024, and he thrives on the slower surface as made evident by his three clay-court titles.

The Argentinian ace enjoyed a return to form at the BMW Open in Germany last week, exiting in a deciding set to home favourite Zverev in the quarter-final, and his early draw represents a real opportunity.

Cerundolo’s toughest test before the quarter-final is likely to come against 2024 runner-up Auger-Aliassime but he will fancy his chances and from there his confidence levels should be on the rise.
