NFL Week 9 Tips

We’re now at the halfway point of the NFL regular season, and the play-off window is already closing on one or two expected contenders.

The Baltimore Ravens need the boost that a fully-fit Lamar Jackson can bring as they begin a series of must-win games, while the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Commanders cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to make return trips to the postseason.

Week 9 features a spectacular Sunday slate, including the Vikings’ clash with the Detroit Lions and another potentially epic Kansas City Chiefs vs Buffalo Bills showdown before the Commanders play host to the Seattle Seahawks.

TIP 1 – BALTIMORE RAVENS -7.5 @ 22/25

Miami Dolphins vs Baltimore Ravens (Friday, 1:15am BST)

Thursday Night Football kicks off with a pivotal AFC matchup as the 2-5 Ravens visit the 2-6 Dolphins. Both teams snapped losing streaks in convincing style last week, but Baltimore still have plenty more to come while the Dolphins may have peaked.

The Ravens rushed for 177 yards and didn’t commit a turnover, while their defense held a Chicago Bears team on a four-game winning streak to a season-low 16 points and no passing touchdowns.

Jackson is expected to return from a three-game absence on Thursday and his presence should elevate Baltimore’s already efficient ground game.

Meanwhile, Miami’s defense ranks in the bottom five in yards per carry and passer rating allowed, and they’ve struggled to contain dual-threat quarterbacks. With Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton back healthy, Baltimore should have enough to cover.

Remember: BetMGM is paying out early when your team takes a 17-point lead, regardless of the final result. More information can be found here.

TIP 2 – DETROIT LIONS -9 @ 10/11

Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings (Sunday, 6:00pm BST)

Reports suggest all is not well in the Vikings locker room after QB Carson Wentz went down for the season, after taking five sacks and five quarterback hits while playing with a torn labrum and fractured shoulder socket against the Los Angeles Chargers last week.

So this is really not a good time for them to be coming up against a refreshed Lions team that put the upstart Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their place just before their bye week.

Jared Goff has been efficient, and the Lions have covered in all three of their home games this season, winning by an average margin of more than 25 points. With Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs healthy, the Lions could cover double figures.

TIP 3 – OVER 52.5 TOTAL POINTS @ 10/11

Kansas City Chiefs vs Buffalo Bills (Sunday, 9:25pm BST)

The headline game of Week 9 sees Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen renew their rivalry in Buffalo. These AFC play-off rivals have combined for 61, 51, and 51 points in their last three meetings, and both offenses are humming again.

Mahomes threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns last week, while Allen led the Bills to a 40-point outing against the Carolina Panthers. With both teams ranking top five in explosive plays and red-zone efficiency, the total looks well within reach.

Buffalo’s secondary remains banged up, and Mahomes has a full complement of weapons so expect fireworks again.

TIP 4 – SEATTLE SEAHAWKS -3.5 @ 19/20

Washington Commanders vs Seattle Seahawks (Monday, 1:20am BST)

Washington are banking on the return of quarterback Jayden Daniels to pull the team out of a three-game tailspin, but it will be tough ask against a solid Seahawks team on a short week.

Seattle’s defense is gaining a reputation for being one of the league’s most efficient units again, and their offence is also surprisingly efficient behind veteran QB Sam Darnold.

Daniels will be facing a scary four-man front generating a ton of pressure, so it could be another long night for Commanders fans.
