Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Newbury & Warwick Tips
SATURDAY RACING TIPS
Warwick 1.50 – Kingmaker Novices' Chase
I’m a big fan of Mambonumberfive (11/10) but I’m going to go against him here with Steel Ally (EVS fav).
I wonder if the ground here might just blunt his speed as he’s looked like a quick horse so far and I think Steel Ally might just outstay him.
He will relish the conditions and that might just swing it in his favour – but it’s a really tight affair and I wouldn’t say the other runner, Mirabad (15/2), is a total no-hoper either.
I’m just going to side with Steel Ally due to the soft ground… but it wasn’t an easy decision!
Megan’s Tip: Steel Ally WIN
Newbury 2.10 – Denman Chase
There is obviously a good chance the racing doesn’t go ahead at Newbury on Saturday but, if it does, then I expect Haiti Couleurs (8/11 fav) to win this.
He bounced right back to form at Chepstow last time and, while he didn’t perform in the big handicap at this track last year, I think we can put a line through that run.
He just gallops and jumps and, if he’s in the same form as last time, he should take some beating here.
This will be interesting tactically as there might be some pressure on for the lead but I don’t think that will bother him too much.
I expect him to come out on top.
Megan’s Tip: Haiti Couleurs WIN
Newbury 2.45 – Game Spirit Chase
Lulamba (8/11 fav) should be too good in the Game Spirit.
It’s a race that Nicky Henderson targets with his two-mile chasers and has a great record in it as a result. His charge looks very exciting and was impressive last time at Sandown.
He’s the class act in this contest and it looks like a good stepping stone on the way to Cheltenham.
Megan’s Tip: Lulamba WIN
Warwick 3.00 – Jane Seymour Mares' Novices' Hurdle
I’m going to stick with Supreme Malinas (11/2).
She outstayed her rivals at Haydock last time and these testing conditions are what she thrives in. It’s basically the softer the better for her and the slight step up in trip will play to her strengths too.
She’s a relentless galloper and I can see her stamina really coming to the fore here.
Megan’s Tip: Supreme Malinas WIN
Newbury 3.20 – William Hill Hurdle
One of the big betting races of the entire season, with BetMGM paying five places each-way.
The one I like is Tutti Quanti (13/2), who was very impressive in the Gerry Feilden at this track last time.
He won’t have any issues with the wet ground and, while he’s got a big weight to carry, I think this is quite a classy horse and he can do some damage off this mark.
This race will have been the target for a while. He looks a very solid challenger.
Of the others, Lanesborough (7/1) should run well too.
He was a bit disappointing in the Lanzarote at Kempton but the ground was quite quick that day and it probably didn’t suit him.
He’s going to be much happier in these conditions with all the rain we’ve had and I can see him running a big race too.
Megan’s Tip: Tutti Quanti EW; Lanesborough EW
